In this way, the New Year of 1922 became the "most painful day" of his life.
Youth smell a lot
His father's orders were difficult to violate, and Wen Yiduo returned to his hometown to become a relative, but he also put forward three conditions: no ancestor worship, no kneeling and worshipping, and no cave house, so as to passively resist.
On the day of his wedding, he went into the study early to read, and under the rough pull of the family, he reluctantly cut his hair, bathed, and changed clothes, but when the palanquin came, his groom hid in the study.
The bride's name is Gao Xiaozhen, who comes from a family of officials and eunuchs, and is a cousin of Wen Yiduo. She had attended private school and did not bind her feet, which was very valuable at that time. However, Wen Yiduo hated arranged marriages to the bone and refused to look at her more.
During his honeymoon, Wen Yiduo relied on reading books and studying poetry to relieve his pain, and during that period, he completed a treatise of more than 20,000 words, "Research on the Poetry of the Law".
After experiencing the baptism of "May Fourth", but eventually becoming a victim of feudal etiquette, in despair, he wrote to his brother, lamenting his misfortune:
"Outside of the extended family, I will now have a small family, and as soon as I think of it, I cut my teeth and fingers!"
"The family is a chain that binds my hands, binds my feet, binds my throat, and binds my brain; I do not get rid of him, I crush him, I will never be free, I will never have life!"
He even said resolutely, "I will take poetry as my wife and painting as my son", and between the lines, the resentment in his heart cannot be repeated.
Smell One More and Gao Xiaozhen
After returning to Tsinghua, Wen Yiduo gradually calmed down. Marriage has become a fact, and he must take responsibility for his wife and family.
In thinking about it, the first thing he thought about was that his wife should go to school and embrace new ideas, rather than being a traditional good wife and mother. He decided to help her, so he wrote to his parents:
"I married this time, purely because I was afraid of worrying about the two adults. I made a big sacrifice for this. But sacrificing for my adults is what I owe and wish. Now I dare to ask the two adults, only for my wife to return to school early! If the two adults will be stubborn and conventional, I dare to risk the name of filial piety, calling the two people insensitive and unkind. ”
In the letter, he, who has always been filial piety, called his marriage "a great sacrifice", and his words can be described as fierce. He hoped that his parents would send Gao Xiaozhen to study as soon as possible.
At his insistence, Gao Xiaozhen entered wuchang girls' vocational school.
After going to the United States, Wen Yiduo often wrote letters to encourage his wife: "It is not that women cannot build universities and have great skills, women are not weak like men, foreign women are like this, why are Chinese women not like this?" ”
In a foreign country, in the biography of Hongyan, Wen Yiduo gave birth to lovesickness. After learning of the birth of her daughter, this emotion became more and more intense, and Gao Xiaozhen's voice and smile often haunted her mind.
A steady stream of love burst from the bottom of his heart, and in a short time, he completed a long group of poems "Red Beans". In the poem, he is full of infinite affection and thoughts:
"Beloved, make me the meridian, and you make the weft thread, and fate weaves the brocade of our marriage." But a frame of huiwen jin oh, horizontal look is acacia, look directly is acacia, look down is acacia, look at acacia, look obliquely is acacia. ”

Alone and enthusiastic, Wen Yiduo often participates in activities with international students, because of his erudition, he once attracted a foreign woman, and in the end, The Oriental ethics defeated the Western free love.
He wrote his determination into the poem: "Break up, our meeting has become a thing of the past, no matter how much hunger and remorse the soul endures, the smile of your friendship is already a dream for me, and I dare not pray for you to show a little love." ”
Without waiting for his feelings to sprout, he resolutely strangled it in the cradle.
In the summer of 1925, Wen Yiduo ended his study abroad career two years ahead of schedule and returned to Beiping National Art College to teach. He took Gao Xiaozhen and his daughter to Beiping and began a real small family life.
Freed from the constraints of etiquette, Gao Xiaozhen also became enthusiastic and proactive, and in addition to housework, she and Wen Yiduo read poems and books together to tease their daughter.
Wen Yiduo finally felt the "emotion of love between men and women", he became fond of family, woke up at midnight, listened to the breathing of his wife and children, and felt extremely happy. He told his friend that it was the most beautiful music.
After the children were born, the family was full of joy, and the family was no longer "a chain", on the contrary, it became a warm harbor.

The good times did not last long, and the gunshots of the Lugou Bridge broke the tranquility of life.
In June 1937, Gao Xiaozhen returned to Hubei with his two eldest sons to visit relatives, and Wen Yiduo and his three children stayed in Beiping, and the family was forced to separate the two places amid the sound of gunfire.
In the moment of crisis, he missed his wife even more and poured out his thoughts in the letter:
"At this time they were all out, and I was alone in the house, very quiet, and I was thinking of you, my dear wife. I don't know I'm such a useless person, as soon as you go, I'm like a lost soul, I can't do anything. Honey, I'm not afraid of death, as long as we both die together. ”
"I got up this morning and plucked the grass for half a day, and I thought that when you came back and looked happy, the lotus flowers also budded, and probably waited for you to come back and bloom, everything was for you."
Later, the family was finally reunited in Wuchang.
After the establishment of the Southwest United University, Wen Yiduo went to Kunming to teach, and after hiking for more than a month, as soon as he arrived at the school, he received a letter written by Gao Xiaozhen and his children, and he was exhausted with joy.
In the reply, he said excitedly: "I am now full of red light, I can eat and sleep, I can walk, and I walk like a fly." ”
Soon, Gao Xiaozhen came to Kunming with her children. The situation is getting tighter and tighter, the supply is getting worse and worse, and most of the professors of the United Nations General Assembly are torn up and have difficulty eating. The population is large, the burden is heavy, and the salary of Wen Yi cannot support a large family at all, and in addition to teaching, he relies on "listing and ruling the seal" to subsidize the family.

Life is hard, but feelings are growing day by day. Every late night, when Smelling a lot of work under the lamp, Gao Xiaozhen would quietly serve a cup of hot tea, or a piece of snack that the children were reluctant to eat.
In the difficult environment, Gao Xiaozhen learned to reclaim wasteland and grow some seasonal vegetables, and she also took her children down the river to catch small fish and shrimp, barely improving her life.
Even so, it is often stretched. In order not for the family to go hungry, Wen Yiduo decided to quit smoking. However, Gao Xiaozhen resolutely disagreed, "You are so hard and tired all day, there is nothing else to enjoy, that is, the hobby of drinking tea and smoking a cigarette, no matter how difficult it is, you must save your cigarette and tea money." ”
The "red tin bag" is gone, the "big front door" is gone, and the inferior dry smoke chokes and smells a lot of coughing.
Gao Xiaozhen said bitterly, "I'll do it for you." ”
She selected a little tender tobacco leaves, sprinkled a little wine and sugar water, kneaded well, cut into thin silk with a knife, and dripped a few drops of sesame oil, patiently baked with a warm fire, making the tobacco color delicious.
Since then, Wen Yiduo has smoked his famous pipe, and he often introduces himself to his friends: "This is concocted for me by the insiders, and the taste is quite good!" ”

In order to avoid air raids, in eight years in Kunming, I moved eight times, during which I was afraid and hard work can be imagined. Once an official eunuch, now she is dressed in coarse clothes. However, in the days of hardship, the family loves and loves, which is the greatest luck and happiness.
Under the influence and infection of Wen Yiduo, Gao Xiaozhen is not only his life partner, but also his staunchest supporter.
In October 1945, Chiang Kai-shek launched the Kunming Incident, the spies rushed into the Southwest United University to beat and kill patriotic students, and the executioner Li Zonghuang liked to be vassal and elegant, and he had long admired the name of Yiduo, and wanted to ask Wen Yiduo to rule for him.
Wen Yiduo flatly refused, and Gao Xiaozhen had no fear: "Don't want these stinky money to starve to death!" ”
As a member of the China Democratic League and the head of Yunnan Province, Wen Yiduo threw himself into the patriotic democracy movement. He and Li Gongpu held anti-war forums to publicize the anti-civil war, fight for democracy, and call for peace.
Young students supported him and loved him, and often students who fled for their lives came to him. Although the housing is narrow and life is difficult, Gao Xiaozhen is always warmly received, which greatly promotes Wen Yiduo's work.
Unsurprisingly, on the list of reactionaries, Wen Yiduo was "on the list", and the secret agent even offered a reward of 400,000 yuan to buy his head.
The underground organizations and friends all advised Yiduo to leave, and the University of California also invited him to give a lecture on favorable terms, but he refused one by one, "I can't leave the suffering people, Kunming still has a lot of work waiting for me to do." ”
Every decision he made, Gao Xiaozhen firmly supported. For her deep understanding of righteousness, Wen Yiduo was very moved, accompanied by more than 20 years, for love marriage, he has a personal experience: "A person should be good at cultivating feelings, and the feelings cultivated through a tortuous life are forever evocative." ”
In 1946, the whole family was in Kunming
On July 11, 1946, the famous patriotic democrat Li Gongpu was assassinated, and Wen Yiduo rushed to the hospital at 5 o'clock in the morning to nurse the corpse and cry bitterly, regardless of fever and danger.
Gao Xiaozhen was worried to the extreme, she knew that he was the second target of assassination, and tearfully advised him not to run outside. Wen Yiduo said bitterly: "The matter has come to an end, and if I do not come out, everything will stop, why should I treat the deceased?" ”
"Die for democracy, I'm ready." He went to righteousness, and she was worried at home.
As expected, four days later, at the report meeting on Li Gongpu's martyrdom, the clamor of the spies made Wen Yiduo shoot the case and deliver a "final speech" of the mighty mountains and rivers. That afternoon, the evil gunshots rang out, and he and his eldest son, Wen Lihe, fell outside their own gate, only 47 years old.
In order to protect his father, Wen Lihe was shot 5 times in the body and has been disabled for life ever since.
Gao Xiaozhen desperately pounced on Wen Yiduo, her body was stained with his blood.
Li and Wen were killed one after another, and the whole country was shocked. Mao Zedong sent a telegram of condolences from Yan'an: "Mr. Yiduo was killed, and I mourn deeply. Mr. Fought for democracy, indomitable, admirable. In the face of the traitor's poisonous hands today, the heroes of the whole country will continue to work hard to ensure that the cause of democracy can be completed. ”
For the sake of the children, in order to smell the hatred of Yiduo, Gao Xiaozhen must live strongly. Thinking that he died to uphold the truth, she changed her name to "Gao Zhen" from then on.
With the help of organizations and friends, Gao Xiaozhen took the children back to Beiping. She inherited Wen Yiduo's legacy, and her home became a secret contact point for the CCP. Later, she took her children through the Kuomintang area and threw herself into the liberated area. The light of the red candle, she wanted to relay down.
After the liberation of the country, Gao Xiaozhen was elected as a member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and died of illness in 1983.
