The famous Greek dramatist Sophocles's "Oedipus The King" has left us with many classic memories, killing the father and marrying the mother, the tragedy of fate, the Oedipus complex, the sudden turning technique, the scorpion questioning, and so on. The charm of the classic lies in the fact that it is often read and renewed, and re-reading the play will be deeply infected by the noble personality of Oedipus, so how is this noble personality refined? What kind of enlightenment can it bring to modern people?

Stills: King Oedipus sings himself in the eye
Oedipus's growth experience is mainly composed of running away, rebelling, taking on, seeking, abandoning and other links, each of which can bring us profound enlightenment.
run away. Oedipus was the adopted son of Pollybos, king of Kozentos, and of noble status. He accidentally learned of his fate to kill his father and marry his mother from the temple of Forbos, and in order to avoid tragedy, he ran away from home, abandoned his wealth and glory, and chose to wander. We are all familiar with physical and psychological weaning, and know that this weaning is both necessary and painful, but we tend to overlook that there are two other types of weaning – economic weaning and social weaning, both of which are equally indispensable to human growth. Oedipus chose to flee, that is, to complete the economic and social weaning in the most thorough way, and to achieve economic independence and personal independence, which is admirable. In connection with today's society, look at China's first benevolent Chen Guangbiao's righteous deeds,—— donated all his property after his death, and did not leave a penny for his children,—— is that parents forcibly weaned their children; and then look at the reaction of Chen Guangbiao's son,—— not only supporting the father's actions, but also saying that he wanted to be blue and to be the world's first good ,—— you can find out how much ambition and potential this weaning will stimulate for his children. Comparing the wealth and wealth of some "rich second generation" (such as Wang Sicong) and the arrogance of the "second generation of officials" (such as "my father is Li Gang" and the like), we will find out how much personality defects will be caused by this kind of weaning!
revolt. As Oedipus approached the fork in the road during his trip, a carriage sped up and saw Oedipus walking with his head down, and the motorist and the old man in the car were rude and wanted to drive Oedipus to the side of the road. Oedipus was furious and hit the driver, and the old man saw it, and hit Oedipus on the head with a double-pointed thorn stick, and Oedipus raised his stick and returned fire, and the old man rolled off his back from the car, and Oedipus killed them all. After reading this plot, we may blame Oedipus for his recklessness and cruelty, but do not forget that Oedipus's resistance is purely legitimate defense, and has a distinct color of resistance to oppression and equality,—— high-cart horses are no more noble than walking on foot, the crowd is not to bully the innocent, if the power is used in the wrong place, who said that they should not be sober-headed? So despite the excessive defense, it also makes people clap their hands! From the perspective of the evolution of civilization, obedience is the adaptation of culture, and resistance is the transcendence of culture; too much obedience will inevitably breed flattery, and dare to resist in order to create pride. Therefore, in the history of science and culture, all the great people who are outstanding have a sense of rebellion and a spirit of rebellion, such as Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Darwin, Einstein, Nietzsche, Lu Xun, Van Gogh, Kafka, Woolf, Becket and so on. Therefore, in order to cultivate a distinct personality and cultivate creative ability, we cannot but have a sense of rebellion.
Bear. Oedipus, who had been killed by the mystery of the Sphinx, saved the Thebans and was proclaimed king. Soon, famine and plague descended on Thebes, and the victims cried out in hunger and cold, and collectively begged for help from the king of Oedipus, who did not prevaricate, did not prevaricate, but felt empathy for the suffering of the victims, pondered bitterly, and had the courage to take responsibility for eliminating the disaster. He sent people to ask questions of the gods, and decided to arrest the murderer of the former King of Thebes, Laios, according to the instructions of the gods, expressing that he would "avenge this wrong for the gods" and explain the motive for doing so--"This is not only for a friend who is not alienated, but also for myself to clear the pollution; because whoever killed him will be the same poisonous hand against me." So I help my friends and benefit myself. "Oedipus's openness and chivalry show a noble sense of justice, which is convincing based on the cornerstone of reason. Zeng Sansan said, "A gentleman must not fail to carry out his duties, and his task is heavy and his road is long. Mencius said, "The poor are good at their own, and the poor are good at the world." Yue Fei said, "I will clean up the old mountains and rivers from the beginning and go to the sky." Gu Yanwu said, "The world rises and falls, and pifu is responsible." Li Dazhao said, "Iron shoulders moral righteousness, and skillfully writes articles." Bacon said that the only thing that people should be proud of is their responsibility. In the process of maturation, we cannot fail to learn to take responsibility.
quest. Compared to solving the mystery of the Sphinx, the mystery of Laios's murder is much more difficult to solve. The former requires wisdom, while the latter requires selflessness, persistence and justice. Although from the first scene, the prophet Teresias pointed out that Oedipus was the murderer of Laios, and foreshadowed that Oedipus would find it difficult to escape the fate of killing his father and mother and becoming blind and being expelled, Oedipus still ignored his own gains and losses and persistently pursued the truth of the matter. In the second scene, from the dictation of his wife (and mother) Iokaste, Oedipus had a premonition that he was the murderer of Laios. In the third scene, Oedipus learns from the messenger population that he is not the son of Porubos, and that his true identity is known only to another shepherd who sent him out. In the fourth scene, Oedipus learns his true identity, and the prophecy of killing his father and marrying his mother is fulfilled in himself. In the process of investigating the case and understanding the truth, the insiders were either out of awe of Oedipus or out of sympathy for Oedipus, and at first they were unwilling to reveal the truth, but Oedipus did not give up, did not abandon, insisted that Qingshan would not relax, and did not hesitate to use various means such as attack and slander to provoke the other party, and finally made the truth known to the world. And what awaits him will be cruel retribution. This spirit of "being willing to cut one's body and thoroughly investigating the truth" is indeed admirable. The playground burial case in Xinhuang, Hunan Province, warns us that the search for the truth is obstructed and long!
King Oedipus could not bear the people's trouble to investigate the truth thoroughly
abandon. After Oedipus found out his crime, he blinded himself with a gold pin, handed over his powers, and exiled himself, fulfilling his promise to severely punish the murderer. I would rather suffer than atone for my sins; I would rather sacrifice myself than uphold justice. This spirit of self-deprivation and self-exile makes people feel respected. He reminds us of Washington's return of military power to Congress, Bolívar's courageous relinquishment of monopoly power seized from the colonizers, Zhuang Shiping's donation of hundreds of billions of property, and Yang Shanzhou's reforestation worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the masses. Those who can give are rich, and those who can give up are noble. There are too many temptations in real life, vested interests will bind our feet, only know how to give up, in order to chase the lofty goal, improve their personality. The general does not chase rabbits on the road, climbs the mountain without carrying a boat, self-deprivation, self-exile, in order to make the spirit full and the soul noble.
Bolivar liberates South America
Oedipus was undoubtedly a tragic hero, who made the most correct choice in his life, but fulfilled the most tragic tragedy, but at the same time, he also wrote the noblest personality. Bravery, fairness, justice, integrity, benevolence, sacrifice, this is the most brilliant personality brilliance of Oedipus's tragic life!
