author:Modern Express

Modern Express News (reporter Li Yisu Wang Ziyang) "2021 Jiangsu Province Excellent Film Script Collection" activity is in full swing, attracting hundreds of screenwriters to actively submit articles. Film history for a hundred years, the stars and Han are brilliant, and Jiangsu has always been the hot land of the birth of movies, and Bao Tianxiao, Wu Yonggang, Li Tianji, Xie Tieli, who wrote down masterpieces such as "Empty Gulan", "Goddess", "Spring in a Small Town", "Early Spring in February" and other legendary masterpieces, are actually Jiangsu people.

As early as the 1920s, Bao Tianxiao, a literati in Wu County, Jiangsu Province (now Suzhou), became a screenwriter "cross-border" and became a well-known "box office bearer". On February 16, 1926, the film "Empty Gulan", written by Bao Tianxiao, premiered at the Shanghai Central Theater and was screened for 10 consecutive days. The film became one of the highest-grossing films of the 1920s.

Not long after, Bao Tianxiao's compatriot Yao Sufeng wrote the film script "Spring Colors of the Song Field", which was produced by Tianyi Film Company in 1931, which was also the first feature film in China to make a sound on the film, leaving a strong mark in the history of cinema.

In 1934, Wu Yonggang, also from Wu County, Jiangsu Province, made a splash and wrote and directed his debut film "Goddess", which was praised by the international film industry as "one of the best silent films in the golden age of Chinese cinema".

The film "Spring in a Small Town" has been rated by film critics as "the first of the top ten business cards of Chinese cinema", and its director Fei Mu and screenwriter Li Tianji are both from Jiangsu. To some extent, the film's unique Jiangnan charm and literati temperament are inseparable from the infiltration of Fei Mu and Li Tianji's many years of Jiangnan life experience.

Xie Tieli, the director and screenwriter of "Early Spring February", is also from Jiangsu, which is based on the novella "February" created by Rou Shi, which was strongly supported and helped by Xia Yan at that time, and won the "Top Ten Film Award" in the "Chinese Film Century Award".

Jiangsu people's screenwriting talent is not only manifested in feature films. In the 1960s, a "Big Haunting Heavenly Palace" came out, and the audience was able to see the style of Qi Tian Dasheng on the big screen. One of the screenwriters of this film is also the director of this film, Wan Liming. Born in Nanjing, Wan Liming is one of the founders of Chinese animation and together with his twin brothers Wan Gu Toad, Wan Chaochen and Wan Dihuan ushered in a new era of Chinese animation films.

Of course, even science and education films and documentaries can see full of "Jiangsu screenwriter style". In 1975, there was a popular science and education film called "Panda". The screenwriter and director of this film is Yin Peilong, a native of Wu County, Jiangsu Province. The film and its vivid brushstrokes introduce the living habits of pandas, their scientific value, and how to strengthen the protection of this precious animal, and have won many awards internationally.

The documentary "The Great Wall of Steel", written and directed by Lu Fang, a native of Taicang, Jiangsu Province, with its extraordinary momentum of the jinge iron horse cannon fire and the 100,000-strong army competing on the battlefield, set off a boom in the 1980s.

Today, the "2021 Jiangsu Province Excellent Film Script Collection" campaign is in full swing, providing a platform for countless screenwriters with dreams to show their talents.
