"I am not a replica of Keanu Reeves"

"Extreme Thief" will break through the sensory experience of "Breaking Point"

Time Network News Action Adventure New Film "Extreme Thief" will land on the mainland screen on December 4, this crime film full of extreme sports elements remake of the 1991 "Breaking Point" directed by Catherine Bigelow and starring Keanu Reeves. The film revolves around Agent Johnny Utah, who, in order to fit in with a group of criminals who must be fanatical about extreme sports, Utah experiences unprecedented challenges with them, and becomes a close friend with the gang leader, Baldy, and ultimately Utah must choose between career and friendship.

"Breaking Point" preserves the uninhibited youth of Keanu Reeves in his twenties, while Australian actor Luke Bracey will challenge Keanu's classic role in "Extreme Thief". Coincidentally, Luke collaborated with Pierce Brosnan on the crime film "The November Killer" last year, and his role is also an American agent.

Luke Bracey will challenge keanu Reeves' classic image

A few days ago, the time network reporter exclusively interviewed Luke Bracey, the Australian newcomer who bravely broke into Hollywood, full of confidence, and the "class that picked up Keanu" had no pressure. In Luke's view, his Utah is very different from Keanu's image, and frankly admits that "not to imitate Keanu can also help reduce stress."

As "Extreme Thief" magnified the single surfing challenge of the original, more live-action extreme sports shots were also incorporated into the film. Being busy with 10 of the world's best locations was also a bonus for Luke's new film. In the interview, he described for us the ultimate experience of witnessing a wingsuit flight thousands of feet high, being overturned by a huge 10-meter wave in Tahiti, and more than 40 hours of vertical rock climbing training in the mountains.

Interview with Luke Bracey

MTIME: What prompted you to take on the baton to star in a new version of Johnny Utah?

Luke Bracy: The role of Utah has a lot in common with myself, which is the main reason I wanted to play. When the original movie "Breaking Point" was released, I was a child and watched it many times from childhood to adulthood. When I was a child, I used to surf a lot, and outdoor sports were my strong suit. I also dream of following the feeling of living my life to the limit in the past.

When I heard that I was going to audition for a remake, I said to the producer and director, "The guy you're looking for." To be honest, the movies and characters I have loved since I was a child, if I let others play them, I will not be able to stand it. Fortunately, in the end they entrusted me with the role.

MTIME: Is there pressure to pick up Keanu Reeves' class?

Luke: Not really. Our film does not copy the original, but tells a completely new story, completely different from the original. So I can play my own Utah, independent of Keanu's Utah, and not a replica of Keanu. Keanu's Utah is very classic, and trying to imitate or repeat it is disrespectful to this classic image. The Thief gives me plenty of room to explore my unique Utah personality.

I was so impressed with Keanu's Utah that I needed to exercise great efforts to restrain myself and not to imitate or become his shadow. Being able to interpret a different role from him also reduces the pressure a lot.

MTIME: Tell us about what are the qualities of your Utah?

Luke: He's an energetic lad, full of energy. He is actually very similar to Baudy, keen to challenge human limits and enjoy the feeling of "epiphany life" in the state of extremes. I love the fearless posture he has, he's not arrogant, just confident enough.

mtime: The film will still choose some material from the original "Breaking Point", right?

Luke: Of course, their posture and vitality to the limit are the essence that our new version wants to express.

mtime: What was the best experience of shooting Mega Thief?

Luke: A lot of family and friends have asked me this question. The film was made for more than six months, and this year it was shot a little bit. It's hard, but there are so many wonderful experiences. We have been to 10 countries to shoot "Extreme Thieves", there is no shortage of worldly scenes such as Tahiti, and we have also experienced the realistic wingsuit flight in Switzerland. It's a hard time to photograph. I'm certainly taking on the play for the script and the characters, and these extra perks are hard to refuse.

Mtime: Do you need special training for such a thrilling film? Have you taken the opportunity to learn new skills?

Luke: It's still mainly physical training. One new skill I learned was rock climbing, which took me 40 hours to master. Fortunately, there are the world's top climbers to teach me, but also let me see that rock climbing is such a beautiful sport, the feeling of climbing from the bottom to the top is full of poetry, I have developed rock climbing into a sport that I often participate in in the future. Rock climbing can make you rethink life.

In the film, the wingsuit flight attracted a stunt double for real shooting

mtime: The trailer shows a lot of dazzling extreme sports footage, very cool, is it so exciting when shooting?

Luke: These are the world's top sports experts to shoot live, and my favorite is to shoot the wingsuit flight scene in Switzerland, and witnessing them flying in the wind in the air is an unforgettable crazy experience of a lifetime. And the great waves of Tahiti, which are amazing. Being able to get in touch with these cattle people is the biggest gain of my filmmaking.

Mtime: Can you classify these extreme items by the level of excitement/madness?

Luke: Oh, it's so hard. It's almost all crazy, and if you want to pick the most exciting thing is probably wingsuit flight, super dangerous. Riding the waves is not bad. Of course, each has unique dangers and challenges.

Utah tattoo show

Mtime: You still play Utah with a lot of tattoos, are these all the credits of the makeup artist? Or does it have your own tattoo in it?

Luke: Haha, in fact, in the movie you can see the tattoos on Jews, only one of them is my own, hidden in the pile of tattoos that were drawn. Let's guess that it's a real tattoo, haha. I think these tattoos represent the chaotic things in his life for Utah, and they are very reflective of the confused state of this young man, who is looking for a sense of belonging. "The Thief" tells the story of Johnny Utah's search for himself. These tattoos are the result of his desire for attachment at different stages and are part of the background narrative.

Mtime: Are there any of these tattoo designs that you like the most?

Luke: The tattoo sleeve on his left hand is very good, and the tattoos on both sides of the shoulders are my own, which is also quite interesting.

Utah and Baldy

Mtime: Edgar (as Baudy), who plays you against you, has a very modern Robin Hood feel in the trailer, and in terms of this character setting, do you think his fanaticism for extreme sports is necessarily related to these extreme "robbery" behaviors?

Luke: Absolutely. One thing they go crazy about all these extreme sports has in common is that participants must rely on the forces of nature, a land that provides them with a stage to realize their wild dreams and gives them the ultimate enjoyment of embracing life. The idea of Baudy's gang is that even if the earth gives us the most wonderful experience, then we should also return it and return the things that human beings greedily demand. Their passion and love of life seem to me to be the source of all action, and the source of the dilemma that puts Utah in. Utah understands the passion, understands that their extreme approach is "well-intentioned," but also understands that this crazy way is wrong.
