A replica of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa is about to be auctioned at the Paris auction on November 9, after another copy sold at a record price.

The creation of the replica for sale dates back to around 1600, and this work is very similar to the original, which is painted on oak panels, signed "Fontainebleau School", considered by the industry to have "extraordinary" quality, and the artist is likely to have come close to Leonardo da Vinci's version. The auction house estimates that the replica will fetch between €150,000 and €200,000.

In June, a European collector set a record for another 17th-century copy of the Mona Lisa at Christie's in Paris for a record price of 2.9 million euros. The replica is said to have been made by a Leonardo da Vinci follower in the early 17th century, and later acquired by antique collector Hergin from an art dealer in Nice, France, in 1953, hence the name Herkin's Mona Lisa.
