Mr. Lin Sanzhi is a famous calligrapher, who was regarded as a benchmark by the academic community and the industry in the second half of the last century, and his calligraphy artistic achievements have long been determined, and as a master of the collection, he has had a great influence on the flow and development of calligraphy art in future generations and has been long-lasting.
In the early 1970s, Mr. Qi Gong saw Lin Sanzhi's calligraphy works and respectfully took off his hat and bowed three times. Lin Sanzhi, whose ancestral home is He County, Anhui Province, was born in Wujiangqiao, Jiangpu County, Jiangsu Province, Beijiangjiaban Village (now part of Nanjing Pukou District), where xiang Yu, the famous King of Chu, killed himself. He is the fifth oldest among his uncles and brothers, and his nickname is "Little Five Sons". Since childhood, he has been fascinated by poetry, books, and paintings, and has called himself "Three Idiots". At the age of 18, he learned ancient Chinese poetry from the late Qing Dynasty Jinshi Hanshan Zhang Li'an, and Zhang Li'an harmonized the sound of "three idiots" and changed his name to "Sanzhi", so this name accompanied him throughout his life.
At the age of 32, he was introduced by Zhang Li'an and studied painting with Huang Binhong, and Fang Wu had to use pen and ink to know the principle of white and black. Two years later, following Huang Binhong's teaching of "reading ten thousand books and walking a thousand miles", he took one book and one bag and began a journey of ten thousand miles that would affect his life. Although he is always on the road, he never forgets to copy the ancient theses every morning, and he works tirelessly.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, guns and bullets rained down around him, but he still insisted on reading and creating, and did not slack off for a day. After 1949, he served as the deputy county magistrate of Jiangpu County, responsible for farmland water conservancy. In 1963, when he was close to retirement, he was hired as a painter at the Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Chinese Painting, which embarked on the road of professional calligraphy and painting creation, but within a few years, the "Cultural Revolution" began, his old wife died of illness, he was very sad, and suddenly made his ears deaf, 69 years old, he had to travel between Nanjing, Yangzhou, Jiangpu and Wujiang for several years.
In 1970, the lunar Chinese New Year's Eve, a greater misfortune came, he accidentally fell into the open pool while bathing in wujiang, his whole body was burned, his arms and right hand were disabled, and his five fingers were sticky, which meant death for calligraphers and painters, fortunately he was rescued from his thumb, index finger and middle finger, and he was still able to write. He overcame the difficulties with tenacious perseverance, and finally was able to hold the pen with three fingers, and later called himself "half-disabled old man". For this "disaster of the soup pot", he once said humorously, "The poor Queen Mother is very affectionate, and she enters Yaochi and sends it back." "His optimism about life and art remains as moving as ever.

At that time, there was such an anecdote circulating: If Guo Moruo came to Nanjing, he asked to give Mo Bao, and Guo Moruo replied: "There is Lin Sanzhi in Nanjing, how dare I write in Nanjing!" ”。 The Japanese calligraphy community has a lot of respect for its books, and calligraphy groups visit China and are proud to visit Lin Sanzhi.
Later, the all-Japanese calligraphy delegation headed by Aoyama Shanyu came to Nanjing, this straightforward and arrogant Japanese contemporary book master originally did not think much of modern Chinese calligraphy, when he saw Lin Sanzhi's works, he bowed on the spot, and honored the title of "Grass Saint Relic Law here" as a gift, which was a good story for a while, Lin San's reputation was greatly shocked, and the reputation of "Contemporary Grass Saint" was also spread.

Lin Sanzhi is a master of poetry, books and paintings. In his early years, he devoted himself to painting, and in his later years he became famous for his calligraphy, however, he considered himself "poetry first, painting second, and book third", and the tombstone he wrote by his own hand was "poet Lin Sanzhi".
Throughout his life, he deliberated on poetry all the time, such as when he was sick, sleeping, eating, and walking, and often rose up to write poetry uncontrollably. Even when sitting on the toilet, I was meditating, and I suddenly got up and lifted my pants to the table to take paper notes, so as not to forget, and it was a joke for a while.
In his later years, he compiled thirty-six volumes of "Poetry on the River", with more than 2,000 poems, which fully demonstrated the romance of his poet and the liberal mind.
Lin Sanzhi, who is more than eighty years old, has not stagnated under the fame, he has ignored the "wind and candles" until his death, for more than ten years, whether he is asked for by others or participated in exhibitions, he has been creating with enthusiasm, and a large number of works have been circulated in all directions. There are no people in all of China who are deeply familiar with calligraphy and painting, that is, there are no people who can read through ten thousand volumes, so it is embarrassing to write vulgarly. For example, during the Republic of China, some people who read books all lived in Hong Kong.
This is not a pass. What's off? It's the colloquial word for this off. To read, ancient reading of ten thousand volumes can be good. Change the temperament to be good.

It is not enough to think of reading as a shortcut to improve your artistic level. Reading books in order to change their temperament and improve their spiritual realm. In addition to reading books and the works of predecessors, artistic creation also requires two living books of society and nature, which are infinite in length and are being extended and deepened every day.
Books are the crystallization of the feelings of predecessors at that time and place, not always the same as me here and now, can be referred to, can not be copied. Copying, not creating. Putting the qi into the paper, life dissolving into the pen and ink, reflecting the leap of life, will not be sweet.
Lin Sanzhi is a typical example of "late success of the great instrument", and it is precisely because of his late fame, decades of accumulation of learning, rich cultivation, not only his calligraphy skills are profound, but also because of his sincerity as a person and his achievements in poetry and painting, nourishing the atmosphere, rhyme, meaning and interest of his books, so that he can reach a supernatural realm.
In order to commemorate this outstanding contemporary calligraphy master, poet and painter, posterity established a memorial hall and art gallery for him. Lin Sanzhi is known as the "Grass Sage", and lin Sanzhi cursive is called "Forest Body".
