In addition to the familiar cormorants, Mandarin ducks, silver gulls and autumn sand ducks in the West Lake, this morning, bird watchers photographed 15 green-winged ducks.
They changed their formations, hovered around the water for a while, and flew northwest. This is also the first time in these years that birdwatchers have found a flock of green-winged ducks in the lakeside area.
Dong Si, vice chairman of the Zhejiang Wild Bird Association, told reporters that this green-winged duck is timid by nature, and the place where it overwinters needs a large area of aquatic grass and vast waters. For example, like the North Lake and South Lake in Yuhang, there are green-winged ducks that come to winter every year, and there are also green-winged ducks in the West Lake in recent years, but the number is small, all of which are a few.
The green-winged duck is a small duck with a body length of 37 cm and a weight of about 0.5 kg. It is characterized by a wide green band that extends from the eye to the side of the neck on both sides of the head, and the metallic emerald green color on the duck's wings is also very striking when flying.

On November 2, birdwatchers also captured at least 20 red-headed gulls circling over west Lake. The red-billed giant gull is a large water bird with an average body length of about 50 cm, which generally inhabits the coastal area and has a fierce temperament. It is rare in the waters of the West Lake.
Lu Jianli, a volunteer of the West Lake Mandarin Duck Guard, revealed that when the red-headed giant gull flew by, it made a "wow wow" sound, which was very loud. Why hangzhou? It is estimated that the hot current before the cold air comes along the Qiantang River, and the red-headed giant gulls come along the Qiantang River and finally see the West Lake. Seeing that there is such a good ecological environment here, I foraged and played here, and stayed in a circle for a whole day.
Speaking of the four winter migratory birds in the West Lake that everyone is familiar with, cormorants come to report on September 9 and Mandarin ducks on October 26, when will the weaver girl silver gull and the ordinary autumn sand duck come? Wild bird lovers revealed that the Weaver Girl Silver Gull is likely to arrive in Hangzhou this week with this cold air. Ordinary autumn sand ducks may arrive in Hangzhou in the coldest period of mid-to-late December.
