On the 18th, South China University of Technology accepted the highest amount of alumni donations since the 60th anniversary of the university in 2012. Liao Qingqing, an alumnus of the school's Department of Chemical Engineering, donated 50 million yuan to his alma mater to support the school's high-level talent training and school infrastructure and development.

Liao Qingqing Profile

Liao Qingqing, in 1963, enrolled in the 7038 class of inorganic physical engineering of the Department of Chemical Engineering of Huagong, and later co-owned with his husband Ye Chenghai in Shenzhen Xinlitai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Founded in 1998 and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2009, the company is a comprehensive pharmaceutical group integrating the research and development, production and sales of pharmaceutical products.

According to the 2017 Hurun Rich List, Ye Chenghai and Liao Qingqing ranked 108th with 25.5 billion yuan.

In recent years, Guangdong universities have accepted donations from alumni society

★ Sun Yat-sen University

Times Real Estate Holdings Limited donated 100 million yuan

On January 6, 2017, Cen Zhaoxiong and Li Yiping, chairman of the board of directors of Times Real Estate Holdings Co., Ltd., donated 100 million yuan to Sun Yat-sen University to establish the "Sun Yat-sen University Times Development Fund".

The fund will be mainly used for "scientific research education" and "medical development": of which 30 million yuan will be used to build a quality education base for the Zhuhai campus of Sun Yat-sen University; 20 million yuan will be used as the "President Fund of Sun Yat-sen University"; and 30 million yuan will be used to set up chair professor seats to hire international top professors, scholars and experts to teach at CUHK. The remaining 20 million will be used to support the development of medical and health undertakings in the Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.

Li Yiping graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages of Sun Yat-sen University in 1991 and is currently the chairman of the Times Real Estate Public Welfare Foundation. On the same day, Sun Yat-sen University also held an appointment ceremony to appoint Shum Zhaoxiong as a director of the Advisory Board of Sun Yat-sen University and a tutor of Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University.

According to the "2017 China University Alumni Donation Ranking" released by the iResearch China Alumni Association website, Sun Yat-sen University accepted 253 million yuan in alumni donations, ranking third among Guangdong universities.

A number of enterprises jointly donated 280 million yuan

On September 17, 2015, Sun Yat-sen University and Zhuhai Launch Project of New Strategic Cooperation - Signing Ceremony of Donation Project of Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. Yang Guoqiang, chairman of the board of directors of Country Garden Group, and Yang Huiyan, vice chairman of the board, donated 100 million yuan in their personal names. JDB Group, Huihui Real Estate Co., Ltd., Hetian Investment Group, Guangdong Fangyuan Group Company, Guangzhou Jiadu Group, and Chen Guangming, president of Fugang Group, donated 30 million yuan respectively.

The president of CUHK, Luo Jun, revealed that the 280 million yuan donated will be used to support the infrastructure construction of the Zhuhai campus and introduce high-level talents to the world.

It is reported that Chen Guangming, president of Fugang Group, is an alumnus of the 88th class of the Department of Mechanics of Sun Yat-sen University.

★ South China University of Technology

Thai alumnus Wang Xingsheng donated 8 million yuan

On December 8, 2017, Huagong accepted a donation of 8 million yuan from alumnus Wang Xingsheng. According to public information, Wang Xingsheng studied inorganic chemical engineering (class 7038) in the Department of Chemical Engineering of South China Institute of Technology (now South China University of Technology) from 1963 to 1968, and returned to Thailand in 1972 to start a business. He is currently the chairman of the Thai Wang Clan Association, the president of Lishizhong Tire Group Co., Ltd., the chairman of Sanpan Chemical Co., Ltd., the chairman of Weili Co., Ltd., the chairman and general manager of Nancai Industrial Co., Ltd., and the chairman and general manager of Jiayou Industrial Co., Ltd.

The funds donated by Wang Xingsheng will be used to support the development of the Huagong College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the construction of the Chemical and Chemical Engineering Building and the improvement of school conditions.

Hong Kong alumnus Cai Jianzhong donated HK$20 million

On November 12, 2011, South China University of Technology Hong Kong alumnus Cai Jianzhong donated HK$20 million to his alma mater.

Cai Jianzhong was admitted to the Department of Architecture of South China University of Technology in 1956. Cai Jianzhong moved to Hong Kong in 1962 and founded Woo Tai Textile Holdings Limited in 1997, which was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2007 and had a market capitalization of nearly HK$8 billion in 2011.

As early as the 1980s, Cai Jianzhong set up funds such as scientific research and sports at his alma mater. Up to now, the donation of various constructions for the alma mater has reached more than 31 million Hong Kong dollars. Cai Jianzhong is enthusiastic about alumni activities, has served as the president of the Hong Kong Alumni Association for more than 10 years, and currently serves as an advisor to the Alumni Association of South China University of Technology, the permanent honorary president of the Hong Kong Alumni Association and the honorary president of the Silicon Valley Alumni Association.

It is reported that 17 million Hong Kong dollars in the donation will be used as a campus capital construction fund for the construction of architecture majors and cartography teaching buildings. HK$2 million was donated as a development fund for the School of Architecture, and HK$1 million was donated to the school's education fund, mainly to reward outstanding students, outstanding teachers and support poor students in the School of Telecommunications.

★ Jinan University

Times China donated 30 million yuan

On July 5, 2018, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reconstruction of Jinan University, the 40th anniversary of its resumption, and the centenary of the establishment of the Department of Commerce, Times China donated RMB 30 million to Jinan University to support the construction of key projects such as the Media Education Building of Jinan University.

Guangdong Times Charity Foundation, one of the earliest charities established by Chinese real estate enterprises, was initiated and established in 2003 by Cen Zhaoxiong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Times Real Estate Holdings Co., Ltd., and the chairman is Ms. Li Yiping, a philanthropist.

Jinan University officially hired Cen Zhaoxiong, chairman of the board of directors of Times Real Estate Holdings Co., Ltd., as a director of the eighth board of directors; Li Yiping, chairman of the Times Foundation, was officially hired as an honorary consultant of jinan university education development foundation.

A total of 220 million yuan was donated during the 110th anniversary celebration

In November 2016, Jinan University held a donation ceremony for famous enterprises in a series of activities for the 110th anniversary of its founding.

In this donation, Evergrande Group, Zhonghui Xiyuan Group and other 10 enterprises donated a total of 70 million yuan, and during the celebration, Jinan University received a total donation of 220 million yuan.

Xia Haijun, vice chairman of the board of directors and president of Evergrande Group, who donated 30 million yuan, is an alumnus of Jida University, and Ke Rongqing, chairman of Guangzhou Luxiang Investment Co., Ltd., who donated 10 million yuan, is also an alumnus and trustee of Jida University.

Chairman of Zhonghui Xiyuan Group, University Trustee and Alumnus Ye Huiquan has supported various constructions for more than 20 years, totaling more than 80 million yuan, and Trustee Chen Jingwei donated HK$20 million for the "Bauhinia Valley Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Counseling" project after donating HK$20 million last year to support Hong Kong and Macao economic research.

In December 2012, Zhu Lai, president of New South Group Co., Ltd., donated 10 million yuan to his alma mater, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.

Zhu Lai graduated from Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the predecessor of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in 1983, and set up the New South Teaching Award Fund in his alma mater many years ago, and in recent years has donated funds to build campus cultural landscapes such as Lingnan Famous Medical Wall, Tongxin Garden, and Tongxin Pavilion.
