From June 22 to July 6, the second phase of the "2021 Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts Undergraduate Graduation Works Exhibition" was exhibited at the University Town Art Museum of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (currently only open to teachers and students on campus). More than 600 undergraduate graduates from the School of Chinese Painting, the School of Painting Art, the School of Sculpture and Public Art, the School of Cross-Media Art, the College of Arts and Crafts, the College of Arts and Humanities, and the School of Fine Arts Education have observed life with an open vision, strived to innovate, and demonstrated the richness and possibilities of the world with works full of youth and passion.

Attention and expression of real life

Lingnan's artistic ethos has always emphasized life and innovation, and this graduation exhibition shows young people's attention and expression of real life. On the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Party, Zheng Manlin from the Department of Chinese Painting expressed the red allusion of "wedding on the execution ground" in a revolutionary romantic way. The work "Weeping Blood Twilight" imagines Chen Tiejun and Zhou Wenyong meeting in front of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau during the Guangzhou Uprising. The painting uses a symmetrical composition, the two people looking at each other, and the kapok falls to the ground, showing the "silence before the storm".

In the fast-paced pace of urban life, social activities are also gradually changing. Han Xuxin's "Convenient Socialization" at the Academy of Painting Art attempts to explore the "fast and cheap" of interpersonal communication and social relationship distance. Guo Dingfen, a school of cross-media art, was born in the countryside and his family had many people who went to the city to work, so his "Life on scaffolding" focused on the construction workers among the migrant workers in the city. He went to the construction site, worked and lived with his cousins for a month, filmed documentaries, and at the same time carved his own experience and feelings of shooting on bricks.

Focusing on tradition and connecting with the present is an important issue for a new generation of art creators. Hu Gui's "Distant Present" of the School of Sculpture and Public Art depicts people and things around him with the linear modeling language of traditional Chinese murals, reliefs and the expression of Mai Jishan's "thin flesh sculpture", so that the fragments of traditional murals become a link between history and today, between the nation and the individual.

Highlight the healing power of art

"The global epidemic is still not settling, mankind is undergoing unprecedented changes, and the development of science and technology is constantly changing the way of life of human beings, and it is also affecting our creation." Qi Zhe, vice president of the College of Arts and Crafts, told the Yangcheng Evening News reporter that in the graduation creation of the College of Arts and Crafts, the healing effect of art was highlighted.

The reporter noticed that the hospital has two creations entitled "Gifts", but they have different perspectives. Bin Zhiyao's clay work "Gift" blends humans and animals into strange shapes, exploring the close relationship between humans and nature: when humans harm animals, animals also "back-gift" their own injuries to humans like "gifts"; and Huang Limin's "Gift", which uses cake mounting techniques and mud with different consistency ratios, is used to create pottery, showing the creator's love for food.

Huang Tingting's "Coming" is a group of rock color decorative paintings, consisting of six paintings. The cut of the picture presents the shape of an arch, combined with the semi-three-dimensional frame, expressing the three stages of loss, search and protection. According to reports, "Coming From" aims to express that young people may be blinded by flowers and lose themselves in the process of growing up, but fortunately, they can still look back at the place, do not forget the original intention, and let themselves continue to move forward.

It is reported that this year's graduation exhibition of the College of Arts and Crafts emphasizes the return of arts and crafts to its roots. "We hope that through these graduation works, we can provide new possibilities and new ideas for creating a better life." Qi Zhe said that with the increasing improvement of the quality of life in China's society, arts and crafts have ushered in the best opportunity for development, whether in first-tier cities or in border villages, young students have great potential.
