Microsoft is optimizing the Windows 11 Apps & Features page to make it easier for users to manage applications

In Windows 10, if you want to manage the apps in your system, you need to open the Apps & features page in the Settings app. This is reserved on Windows 11, but Microsoft is planning to improve the Apps & Features page to make it easier for users to uninstall apps and manage existing apps.

In the recently released Windows 11 build 22494 preview, Microsoft is testing the installed apps subpage on the Apps & Features page. Open the page to see a list of installed UWP and desktop applications.

Windows Settings lets you scroll through a long list of apps, but the design issue for now is infinite scrolling. While the app does have a search box, Microsoft doesn't let you change the view of the settings app, so you'll need to keep scrolling through the list to find certain apps.

Starting with build 22494, application and feature pages are divided into separate categories, each with its own dedicated page. For example, you can now tap on "Installed Apps" to see all of your installed programs.

To make it easier for us, Microsoft is introducing a new feature that lets you switch between three different layouts. The default layout is List, but you can now switch to a thumbnail layout that looks similar to a static tile. This new static tile-like layout solves the problem of infinite scrolling, and if you don't like Microsoft's experiments, you can always go back to the original look.

In addition to better design, Microsoft is also working on advanced features set up for Windows. For example, you can now filter the list using alphabetical order, smallest to largest files, largest to smallest files, and so on.

Microsoft is currently testing these improvements with Windows Insiders in the development pipeline. These changes are expected to land with the 22h2 version of Windows 11, which should be released to consumers in October 2022. However, it is possible that the application and feature pages will be updated through these experience packs.
