Microsoft released cumulative update KB4023057 to improve the reliability of Windows Update

author:cnBeta

From time to time, Microsoft pushes cumulative update kb4023057 to help improve the reliability of Windows updates. So far, this has been aimed at Windows 10, but now Microsoft has released the update for Windows 11 for the first time. The software is a cleanup patch that Microsoft pushed earlier to roll out a bigger update in the near future, and it did some work to make the larger service update roll out more smoothly.

The patch does the following:

The update may require your device to remain non-sleeping for a longer period of time to enable the installation of the update.

If a problem is detected, the update may attempt to reset network settings and will clean up registry keys that may prevent the update from installing successfully.

This update may fix disabled or corrupted Windows OS components that determine how applicable the update is to your version of Windows 10.

This update may compress the files in your user profile directory to help free up enough disk space to install important updates.

This update may reset the Windows Update database to fix an issue that may prevent the update from installing successfully. Therefore, you may see that your Windows update history is cleared.

It's unclear why KB4023057 is preparing for a larger update, but Microsoft Telemetry may have detected monthly update installation issues with their new operating systems.

KB4023057 is a mandatory update that currently has no known issues and is being rolled out to all supported Windows 11 users.
