KBB reported that nearly 500,000 all-electric vehicles were sold in the United States last year. Electric vehicle sales, including plug-in and standard hybrids, totaled nearly 1.5 million units.

"Electric vehicle sales accounted for 9.7 percent of all sales in 2021, and in the fourth quarter, electric vehicle sales accounted for 11.8 percent of total sales," KBB said in the report. "If the inventory and supply problems hadn't been that severe, sales last year could have increased even more. For example, the Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV were barely sold in the second half of the year due to battery and production issues, while hybrid leader Toyota struggled with inventory for much of the fourth quarter. ”

According to a more in-depth analysis by KBB's parent company Cox Automotive, the Model 3 is the second most popular electric vehicle in the country, after the Model Y, accounting for 39.1% of the total market share. In the United States, the third most popular car in the electric vehicle market is Ford's Mustang Mach-E, with cumulative sales of 27,140 units, accounting for 5.6% of the electric vehicle market share.
