To celebrate the 100th birthday of Mr. Yang Zhenning, Nobel Laureate in Physics and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the "Seminar on Mr. Yang Zhenning's Academic Thought on Century Physics" was held at Tsinghua University on September 23.
At the meeting, Mr. Yang Zhenning mentioned his good friend Deng Jiaxian, a nuclear physicist, and recalled that Deng Jiaxian had written to himself, in which he changed the story of "I hope that people will be long-lasting, thousands of miles together" to "I hope that people will be long-lasting, and thousands of miles will be on the same road", and responded to it with deep feelings.
Deng Jiaxian graduated from Southwest United University and was employed by the Department of Physics of Peking University. At the birthday party, Peking University and its sister universities sent birthday greetings to Mr. Yang Zhenning. From the former Southwest United University to today's Tao Li Fenfang, all the teachers and students of Peking University extended warm congratulations and high respect to Mr. Yang Zhenning's scientific spirit of rigorous study and brave climbing to the peak, as well as the original mission of bearing the motherland and benefiting the people.

According to Mr. Xu Yuanchong's recollection in "Forever Southwest United Congress", Mr. Yang Zhenning once said that his birthday had three: the first was in the lunar calendar; after arriving in the United States, he changed the eighth month of the lunar calendar to the eighth month of the solar calendar, which is the second; after returning to China, he checked and found that the lunar calendar was equivalent to the solar calendar, which should be October 1.
On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Mr. Wang
The Media Center of Peking University hereby submits this article
Congratulations and respects
I hope to look back at the history of that song and tears
Inherit the spirit of the older generation of scientists
In an asymmetrical universe, follow the same path

Half-lives, they have lived in different hemispheres. Half a century later, looking back in time and space, they have actually been walking on the same road. "Jiaxian, I see what you mean." I'm sure you'll be satisfied too."
letter
After stepping into the Beijing airport, all the way to the bottom of the gangway of the plane, Yang Zhenning finally couldn't help it.
He asked Deng Jiaxian, "Did we build the atomic bomb Chinese?" Are there any Americans involved?"
In 1971, Yang Zhenning, who returned to China for the first time after working in the United States for many years, in addition to his father, the person he most wanted to see was his old classmate Deng Jiaxian at Southwest United University: "The most important thing is also my closest friend."
The relationship between the two is very good, both studied at Southwest United University, the same department of physics, after graduation, both went to the United States to study. The only difference was that in 1950, Deng Jiaxian chose to return to China to work, and Yang Zhenning stayed in the United States to continue his research.
In 1964, China successfully exploded its first atomic bomb. Yang Zhenning saw the relevant news in american newspapers. The newspaper also published a list of Chinese researchers involved in the development of the atomic bomb, and although it was an English transliteration, Yang Zhenning recognized Deng Jiaxian's name at a glance.
Newspapers also said that Chairman Mao had sent planes to northern Shaanxi to bring an American physicist, Han Chun, to Beijing to help China build an atomic bomb.
Yang Zhenning knew the American physicist. "It's because I worked in the same lab as her at the University of Chicago for 20 months, and she asked me to teach her Chinese." She didn't tell me why until March 1948, when she told all the teachers and students at the University of Chicago that she was going to China to marry her boyfriend, in northern Shaanxi."
A question lingered in the mind. Did China's atomic bomb Chinese built itself, or did it have the help of foreigners? Is the story of Han Chun's participation in China's atomic bomb true or false? In 1971, Yang Zhenning, who returned to China to meet his old friend, always wanted to ask, "But this is a sensitive question, so I dare not ask."
Deng Jiaxian took a group photo with Yang Zhenning for the last time
After a few weeks in Beijing, Yang Zhenning was going to Shanghai and fly back to the United States from Shanghai in a few days. His old friend Deng Jia first dropped him off at the Beijing airport. At the last moment before saying goodbye, he finally asked the question in his heart.
The old classmate next to him firmly replied to him, "As far as I know, I will first ask the organization for verification, and then write to you."
Returning home on the same day, Deng Jiaxian confirmed this issue to the organization and asked Premier Zhou Enlai. After receiving a reply, he immediately wrote a letter to Yang Zhenning and sent someone to Shanghai the next day. When Yang Zhenning received the letter, he was eating in the Shanghai Mansion.
Deng Jiaxian told his old classmates in the letter, "No foreigners participated in the manufacture of The Chinese atomic bomb." Except for a little help from the Soviets at first, it was basically done Chinese themselves.
In the next few paragraphs of the letter, Deng Jiaxian said that he had met Yang Zhenning many times in the past few weeks, and he could not say what he wanted to say to him. At the end of the letter, he described what he wanted to tell Yang Zhenning, but he didn't know how to talk about it. "After meeting you a few times, I always feel as if there are shortcomings or something in my heart, and when I think about it, I always have the feeling of 'friends and worries' in my heart." 」
Therefore, at the end of the letter, Deng Jia first wrote a sentence, deliberately changing "May people be long-lasting, and thousands of miles be cherished together" to "I hope that people will be long-lasting, and thousands of miles will be on the same road."
Yang Zhenning did not understand this sentence at that time. What does it mean to "a thousand miles a common way"?

Southwest Union University is a special university, neither the ancients nor the comers.
The actual "lifespan" of this university is not very long. In 1937, after the fall of Beijing, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University in Pingjin went to Changsha to form a temporary university, and six months later moved to Kunming to form the "Southwest United University", until 1946, when it moved back to Beijing and Tianjin and restored the original three university structures, only eight years.
In the past eight years, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was extremely arduous, and aircraft artillery were accompanied day by day. "The roof of the United Nations General Assembly is short", but the 2522 graduates of the United Nations University who have come out of this low hut are the pillars of the country. Among them were Deng Jiaxian and Yang Zhenning.

In 1924, Deng Jiaxian was born in Huaining County, Anhui Province. His father, Deng Yijing, was a famous philosopher and educator. Soon after Deng Jiaxian was born, his mother took him to his father, who was teaching at Peking University at the time. When he grew up, he also taught at Peking University for several years like his father, and later went to the road of nuclear bomb research from here.
At the age of 12, Deng Jia was first transferred to Beiping Chongde Middle School, where he met Yang Zhenning, who was two grades higher than him. Yang Zhenning's father, Yang Wuzhi, was both a fellow villager and a colleague with Deng Yijing. The two have the same experience, are like-minded, and come and go. The camaraderie of the fathers continued to the children. Deng Jiaxian and Yang Zhenning maintained a friendship for a full 50 years.
The sudden July 7 Incident disrupted Deng Jiaxian's study life. When the Japanese army occupied Peiping City and forced young students to march to celebrate, the 13-year-old tore a Japanese flag to pieces in public and threw it on the ground and stomped on it.
In 1940, the family decided that 16-year-old Deng Jiaxian would take his younger brother south. Before leaving, Deng Yijing said to his son, "In the future, you must study science... Learning science is useful to the nation." The following year, Deng Jiaxian was admitted to the Department of Physics of Southwest Union University.
Gate of the National Southwest United University
Because Southwest United University includes peking university, tsinghua university and nankai schools, students who have graduated from the three schools and continued to study at the university before the war of resistance will retain their original school registration and student name, and will be preceded by the english letter "P" to represent Peking University, the letter "T" to represent Tsinghua, and the letter "N" to represent Nankai, and the graduation certificate will be issued by the original school at graduation; when entering the University, the student number is prefixed with "A", which represents the United University (later also used "L"). Because of the year, the "joint brand" is always laughed at by the students as "little brother".
Deng Jiaxian, who entered Southwest United University in 1941, with the student name A4795, was the "younger brother".

Yang Zhenning, who was also a fellow villager in Anhui Province, forced by the war and chaos to flee, passed through Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Hanoi, Vietnam, and arrived in Kunming, Yunnan Province, where Deng Jia first enrolled in school three years earlier, and was admitted to the Southwest United University in the autumn of 1938, first obeying his father's orders to apply for the Department of Chemistry, and then changing the Department of Physics, the student name A580. From the Old Garden to Kunming, when the two reunited at the Ungigan Congress, Yang Zhenning once again became a "big brother".

Singing the school song of the Southwest United University, "A Thousand Autumns of Shame, Finally The Snow, Zhongxingye, And Su Renjie", the two of them under the strict teaching of the super luxurious lineup of the Physics Department, including Ye Qisun, Wu Youxun, Zhao Zhongyao, Rao Yutai, Zhou Peiyuan, Wu Dayu, Wang Zhuxi and others, accepted first-class academic training, immersed themselves in study, and laid the foundation for the research career they were engaged in all their lives.
In terms of study and life, the two support each other, debate loudly in class all the knowledge and interesting things under the day, and like to read ancient poems under the tree next to the wall.
Schools are temporary and classmates are lifelong. In Yang Zhenning's heart, this "little brother" did not have a little careful eye, loyal and plain, sincere and frank. "Deng Jia was first my close friend in middle school, college, and the United States, and I think his relationship with me was not only academic, but also more than brotherly."
Share the same destiny
Although the sun was still shining brightly, the heat seemed to have suddenly lost, and the butterflies on the school lawn had decreased, and there lay students basking in the sun, lying on the green cloth cotton coats brought from Changsha.
The cotton coats that had sucked in the afternoon sun were fluffy and soft and good to sleep, and as soon as they closed their eyes, they remembered the long journey, the exciting and changeable times, the rich and proud years, and they were as proud as the tramps in the winter sun, and in that moment, they forgot the clothes list, forgot the homelessness, forgot the hungry intestines, and were indeed as happy as the prince.
Wu Nesun, a son of Southwest United University, recorded the daily situation of The Students of the United Nations University on campus in the novel "Weiyang Song".

In Kunming, where all seasons are spring, the teachers and students have created a style that is both free and rigorous. Under the high degree of teaching freedom, students will open their minds, form their own judgments, and even openly oppose the teacher's views.
Yang Zhenning's father, Yang Wuzhi, was the head of the Mathematics Department at the United Nations General Assembly. In a mathematics department exam, a classmate used a new method, which was judged by Yang Wuzhi to be a wrong practice. The classmate posted a small-character newspaper on the campus, saying that he went to Yang Wuzhi and showed him the new solution in the magazine, thinking that he had done nothing wrong. Yang Wuzhi felt very embarrassed because of this, and resigned from the post of department head due to illness.
Yang Zhenning and Huang Kun often went to the tea house to discuss physics problems. Once When Yang Zhenning and Huang Kun were chatting, Huang Kun asked him if he had read Einstein's recently published article, and Yang Zhenning waved his hand and said dismissively: "There is no originality (innovation), it is an old fool."
Another day, Yang Zhenning, Huang Kun, and Zhang Shoulian's "Three Musketeers" debated in the teahouse what the Copenhagen explanation was all about. They discussed at the teahouse until dark, and then discussed all the way to Kunhua Middle School. Back at ten o'clock the lights went out, and they lit candles again, taking out a small book by Werner Heisenberg, The Meaning of Quantum Mechanics, and reading a few more paragraphs.
Yang Zhenning recalled that the knowledge he learned at Southwest United University "was obtained from his classmates, not from books." In 2017, the 80th anniversary of the founding of Southwest United University was held at Peking University, and Yang Zhenning said in his speech, "I am personally very fortunate to be able to get such a good education in such a difficult period, and I am very grateful to Southwest United University."
The 80th anniversary celebration of Southwest United University was held at Peking University, and Yang Zhenning attended
From the summer of 1940 to the fall of 1941, the Japanese bombed almost every day. The United Nations General Assembly is on the edge of the city, and as soon as the alarm is raised, everyone runs to the suburbs, which teachers and students call "running alarm". In order to avoid the bombing, the class time of the United Nations General Assembly was also changed, and the noon time was vacant. When running the alarm, a person sends two steamed buns and one kohlrabi pickle.
During a "running alarm", Yang Zhenning and Deng Jiaxian hid in the cave together. As the dust fell and the sky shook, the two men recited poems. Yang Zhenning back "lying down at night to listen to the wind and rain, the iron horse glacier into the dream", Deng Jia first back "bright moon pine light, Clear Spring Stone upstream".
The United Nations University students also do not run the alarm. A female classmate surnamed Luo, as soon as the alarm came, she washed her hair. At this time, the hot water in the boiler room was not used, and how much water was needed. There is also a Zheng classmate who loves to eat lotus seeds, as soon as there is an alarm, he will bring a large gargle cylinder to the boiler fire to cook lotus seeds.
Wang Zengqi wrote in his book: "Once, when bombs fell in the north and south courtyards of Kunming, this old brother Zheng listened to the bomb ping-pong ping-pong and exploded not far away, and still stirred his rock candy lotus seeds on the boiler next to the big library of the new school building." The alarm was lifted, and his lotus seeds were boiled. Wang Zengqi called this a spirit of "Confucian complementarity."
Our nation, for a long time, was born of sorrow and has become very "skinny." In the face of any sudden disaster, you can exert the essence of this spirit, that is, "don't care". This spirit of "not caring" will never be accepted.
The poet Feng Zhi, professor of the Department of Foreign Languages of the United Nations University, wrote in the poem: "We once shared the fate of a common human being."

Southwest United University has "five talents", known as the "five walls of liberal arts and sciences", of which "science" is physicist Yang Zhenning, and "wen" is translator Xu Yuanchong. Xu Yuanchong, who belongs to the same A character as Yang Zhenning and Deng Jiaxian, is also like all the students of lianhe university, and can still blurt out his lianhe university number in his old age: "A203".
From left to right: Zhu Guangya (Meritorious Scientist of Two Bombs and One Star), Xu Yuanchong (Lifetime Achievement Award for Translation), Yang Zhenning (Nobel Laureate in Physics), Wang Chuanlun (Lifetime Achievement Award in Finance), Wang Xiji (Meritorious Scientist of Two Bombs and One Star)
As the first batch of students of Southwest United University, Xu Yuanchong and Yang Zhenning, one in the Department of Foreign Languages and one in the Department of Physics, but because they were in public classes in their freshman year, the two were classmates. Among the students of Southwest United University, Xu Yuanchong's first one is Yang Zhenning.
Xu Yuanchong repeatedly praised Yang Zhenning as a genius, and since the day he met Yang Zhenning, he has been secretly competing with him, hoping to surpass each other.
Zhenning's second brother, Zhenping, said that Zhenning was born a left-handed person. "My mother took a lot of effort to change my eldest brother's eating and writing to his right hand, but he still naturally used his left hand when he played ping-pong, played marbles, and threw tiles, because the left brain of a person controls the right hand, and the right brain controls the left hand."
Xu Yuanchong felt that Yang Zhenning's later extraordinary achievements may have something to do with the simultaneous use of both brains: "I always use my right hand when I write and play table tennis, so I emphasize literature over reason, and it is not as good as his literary and rational skills."
Yang Zhenning in 1956
Like Yang Zhenning, Deng Jiaxian was left-handed. His wife Xu Luxi recalled that Deng Jiaxian especially loved to play pinball and liked to play table tennis, "I can't play table tennis, he plays table tennis very well." Because he was left-handed, he played ping-pong with his left hand, and he smoked so much that the other party couldn't catch it."
In 1949, Yang Zhenning and Deng Jia preceded the University of Chicago
In 1957, Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for co-proposing the theory of "cosmology is not conserved". The theory proposes that the left-right symmetry of space is non-conserved during weak forces and is confirmed by experiments on the β decay of cobalt-60 atoms. For the first time since the birth of modern physics, the belief that "symmetry", which physicists regard as a treasure, has been shaken.
In the impression of Western physicists, God is a rigorous man, everything created by God should be simple and symmetrical, and all physical theories are left and right symmetry. Until 1956, "conservation of the cosmic name" was long tacitly acquiesced to a self-evident truth. Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao tore a gap in the principle of symmetry, and to the surprise of everyone, proved that "nature does distinguish between the left and right hands".
December 10, 1957, Stockholm, Sweden, Nobel Laureates in Physics Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao
At the beginning of the paper, the Austrian physicist Pauli, one of the pioneers of quantum mechanics, believed that yang Zhenning's ideas were very outrageous. Quantum mechanics has gone too far in proposing "God rolls the dice", and now some people are proposing "God asymmetry"?
Pauli asserts that "I don't believe God is a slight left-hander" and bets $50 that the duo's theory is wrong. Later, the experimental results were announced, and the entire physics community was shocked.
Pauli, who lost $50, humorously wrote the following comment: "We sadly announce that our friend Ms. Umeha passed away on January 19, 1957, after a brief period of surgical pain." The left-handed lad from the East proves that God is really a left-hander.
Gunnery
A few years after his friend Yang Zhenning won the Nobel Prize with left-handedness, Deng Jiaxian, who was also left-handed, used his left hand to skim out a cannon battle.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Deng Jiaxian was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Physics of Peking University. On the campus of Peking University, he met two important people in his life: Xu Luxi, a student of Beijing Medical College (now Peking University Medical College), who married him and lived together for life; the other was Yu Min, a sophomore in the department of physics, who saw him as he was, and after twenty years, the two worked together to make a big career.
In 1948, Deng Jiaxian crossed the ocean to study in the Department of Physics of Purdue University in the United States, and obtained a doctorate in just over a year, and at the age of 26, he was known as "Dr. Doll". On the ninth day after graduation, he embarked on a ship to return to China, and did not have time to bid farewell to Yang Zhenning.

After returning to China, Deng Jiaxian lived a stable and happy life. In October 1950, Deng Jiaxian went to work at the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1953, he married Xu Luxi, and in 1954 his daughter Dian Dian was born, and the following year his son PingPing was born. A family of four, happy and harmonious.
Deng Jiaxian's family
When Deng Jiaxian was immersed in happiness, the atomic bomb plan of new China was brewing, and it was necessary to have a person who was professionally proficient and politically reliable, and who also had high consciousness, good moral character, and good foreign languages, and it was best to stay in the ocean. Qian Sanqiang, director of the Institute of Atomic Energy, strongly recommended that "deng Jiaxian be the only one", and the above agreed.
One day in August 1958, Deng Jia first came to Qian Sanqiang's office. "How about the state put up a 'cannon battle' and transfer you to do this work?" Deng Jiaxian did not hesitate and agreed on the spot.
Back at home, Deng Jia first told his wife Xu Luxi the news of the transfer of work. The wife asked, where to tune? The husband replied that he could not speak. The wife asked, what to do? The husband replied, and could not say. The wife said, I correspond with you. The husband replied, no.
At the age of 34, he left only two words for his wife. "I'm afraid I won't be able to take care of this family in the future, it's all up to you." "My life has been dedicated to the work of the future ever since, and when I do this well, life has meaning, even if it is worth dying for it." 」
The family spent a sleepless night together. Early the next morning, Deng Jiaxian left home and set off for a new post.
In 1962, Deng Jiaxian's family took a photo in Langrun Garden, Peking University
In June 1959, Sino-Soviet relations broke down completely. Chinese can only develop nuclear weapons on their own, starting from scratch. Deng Jiaxian led the three groups in an all-round way and became the person in charge of the theoretical design of China's first atomic bomb. Hua Luogeng called the problem they calculated: "The great achievement of the mathematical problems of the world."
In order to calculate a numerical value, Deng Jia first arranged for everyone to work in three shifts. Every time you do it, it takes more than a month. In order to get the job done as quickly as possible, they often stay up until dawn. Sometimes, Because Deng Jiaxian was too tired to keep up with his thinking, he would sigh, "One sun is not enough!"
In three years, he led a group of young people to outline the outline of China's first atomic bomb.
Deng Jia first worked on photos
At 15:00 on October 16, 1964, at the Lop Nur nuclear test site in Xinjiang, with the countdown of 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1, a strong flash of light in the heart area was followed by an earth-shattering loud noise. The huge fireball turned into a mushroom cloud and soared into the sky, and the shock wave rushed towards the effect zone like a mountain and a sea.
On October 16, 1964, China's first atomic bomb was successfully detonated
China's first atomic bomb exploded successfully. This was the first "cannon battle" that Deng Jiaxian engaged in for the country. Too late to celebrate and rest, Deng Jiaxian threw himself into the study of the hydrogen bomb. Soon, the second "cannon battle" also came.
On June 17, 1967, China's first hydrogen bomb exploded successfully, and its power was equivalent to 3 million tons of TNT explosives, which was 150 times that of the first atomic bomb.
From the atomic bomb to the hydrogen bomb, It took 8 years for France, 7 years for the United States, 4 years for the former Soviet Union, and 2 years and 8 months for China. This time, the loud sound of the "cannon battle" was heard by the whole world, including Yang Zhenning on the other side of the world.
Meet along the road
During a nuclear test, the atomic bomb did not explode as expected and fell to the ground and was broken. Deng Jiaxian, the chief designer of nuclear weapons, ordered everyone to retreat, jumped into a jeep in spite of obstacles, and rushed into the vast Gobi. The inspection found that the problem was that the parachute was not opened, which ruled out the atomic bomb.
In 1979, in the Gobi Desert of xinjiang nuclear test base, Deng Jiaxian was on the left
When he returned to Beijing for examination, the doctor found that Deng Jiaxian's urine had strong radioactivity. In 1985, he was diagnosed with rectal cancer. He was in a hospital bed, calm and powerless. "I knew this day was coming, but I didn't expect it to come so quickly."
During Deng Jiaxian's hospitalization, Yang Zhenning returned to China to visit. When chatting, he asked his old friend how much bonus he had received for the development of atomic bombs and hydrogen bombs, and Deng Jiaxian replied that the atomic bomb was 10 yuan and the hydrogen bomb was 10 yuan.
Before Deng Jiaxian died, the central authorities said that he had spent his whole life in anonymity for the development of nuclear weapons, and he could not let him go like this. At this time, people knew Deng Jiaxian's name for the first time, which was the Founder of the Two Bullets, "a hero".
In 1986, Deng Jiaxian passed away at the age of 62. Deng Jiaxian's father-in-law, the 90-year-old Xu Deheng, wrote on his hand: "I am extremely saddened by the death of Jiaxian."
After Deng Jiaxian's death, he was mainly involved in four projects: the breakthrough and weaponization of the atomic bomb, the breakthrough and weaponization of the hydrogen bomb, the breakthrough of the second-generation hydrogen bomb device, and the major breakthrough of nuclear weapons, and was posthumously awarded the Special Prize of National Scientific and Technological Achievements, with a prize of 1,000 yuan each. Deng Jiaxian's family donated all these bonuses to the science and technology award fund set up by the Ninth Academy.
Yang Zhenning understood that this close friend did not wander, there was no contradiction. "Deng Jiaxian is the son of the highest dedication nurtured by thousands of years of traditional Chinese culture." He wrote in a eulogy.
"If Jiaxian chooses his life again, he will still follow the path he has already taken, which is his character and quality." After a long farewell, Yang Zhenning saw clearly the path chosen by his old friend.
Deng Jiaxian, who was seriously ill, first discussed academic issues with his peers in the hospital
Later, many people always compared Yang Zhenning with Deng Jiaxian and said all kinds of strange things about him giving up his American citizenship to become a Chinese citizen.
In the summer of 1971, Sino-US relations had just thawed, and Yang Zhenning returned to the mainland for the first time. At that time, when he returned to China, Yang Zhenning and his father had to report for approval. Someone once advised Yang Zhenning that he would not be allowed to return to the United States for fear that he would be detained by the Chinese government. Yang Zhenning said, no.
After returning to the United States, he gave speeches on new China in many places, entitled "For sacrificing more ambitions, dare to call the sun and moon for a new day", which caused a sensation. This move attracted the attention of the CIA, who repeatedly "talked" to him.
Cover of Yang Zhenning's speech transcript in 1971
Yang Zhenning did not care at all, and after that, he not only spoke everywhere, but also became the president of the National Chinese Association. He constantly stressed the necessity of establishing diplomatic relations between China and the United States, and was openly scolded as a "Yang bandit" by the pro-Taiwan newspapers in the United States at that time. After the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, Deng Xiaoping visited the United States, and Yang Zhenning delivered a welcome speech as president of the All-American Chinese Association.
In 1999, Yang Zhenning taught at the University of Chinese in Hong Kong, donated his archival materials, including the Nobel Prize medal, to the school, and established the Sino-US Educational Exchange Foundation to fund Chinese scholars from all walks of life to study in the United States. Ge Molin, a professor at the Institute of Mathematics at Nankai University, recalled, "Once Mr. Yang had a fever, and despite his wife's persuasion, in order to obtain financial support, he drove about two hours one way to attend the conference to win donations for the foundation."
After his retirement, Yang Zhenning donated $1 million in cash, including his Nobel Prize, to the Institute for Advanced Study of Tsinghua University on behalf of his family, and raised funds through various channels to ask Thermos of the United States to donate to the construction of an expert building for the center. His annual salary was also donated to Tsinghua.
From Gong Chanjuan, who is separated at both ends of the earth, to the homecoming garden after making breakthroughs in major scientific and technological fields, the two friends who came out of the Southwest United University have reunited in different ways.
The former Union University no longer exists, but the scientific spirit and patriotism it represents in the pursuit of truth and the courage to climb the peak continue in more naked children.
Yang Zhenning proved to the world that Chinese can also win the Nobel Prize, "The most important achievement of my life is to help overcome the psychology of Chinese feeling inferior." 」 Deng Jiaxian proved to the world that Chinese can also build atomic bombs, "I have no regrets about my choice for the rest of my life." If I can regenerate after the end of my life, I will still choose China and choose the nuclear cause."
In Huaining, Anhui, there is a road called Jiaxian Road. The road adjacent to Jiaxian Road is called Zhenning Road. The two roads stand side by side day and night.
National Day is coming, and like many cities, there will be red-hot festive decorations hanging on the side of the road. Many people will come here to sing and laugh and celebrate the festival.
The frost was full of heart blood, sprinkled on the Qianfeng Qiuye Dan. At the centenarian birthday party, Yang Zhenning once again recalled the story with Deng Jiaxian, recalled the letter he wrote to himself fifty years ago, and responded to his old friend through time and space.
I think today, fifty years later, I can say to Deng Jiaxian:
Jiaxian, I understand your meaning of "common way", and I can tell you very confidently that my next fifty years will be in line with your vision of "common way", and I believe that you will be satisfied. Good bye!
