Recently, the tea quality and risk assessment innovation team of the Tea Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has made new progress in the rapid detection technology of tea quality and safety factors, and successfully developed a rapid detection technology for tea polyphenol content in tea, which can determine the tea polyphenol content in the sample within 10 minutes.

Tea polyphenols are the main ingredients that determine the taste and health benefits of tea. The determination of traditional tea polyphenol content is based on the color development reaction of fluin phenol, but because the reaction between the flunin phenol reagent and the tea polyphenol itself is very slow, it takes about 2 hours to reach a stable state, so the traditional tea polyphenol content detection method has the defects of complex operation, time-consuming, reagent consumption and high cost.

The microfluidic paper chip technology developed by the team has the special function of high-throughput flow control, which can realize the precise control of parallel reactions, combined with the kinetic matching method, and the accurate determination of tea polyphenol content can be completed in 10 minutes. Lu Chengyin, a researcher at the Tea Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, introduced that compared with the traditional method, the method significantly shortens the detection time, but also has the advantages of saving reagents and simple devices, and has good application prospects in real-time monitoring of tea production and consumer self-testing.

In addition, the team has established a pesticide residue rapid measurement technology based on organic solvent online volatile concentration-microfluidic paper chip, which increases the recovery rate of pesticide residue rapid measurement method from the original (29.7±6.6) to (87.4±2.8%), solves the long-term problem of restricting the sensitivity and accuracy of rapid detection of pesticide residues, and significantly improves the performance in the rapid detection of actual samples.
