How to eat poisonous lionfish? Let's take a look at how divers and Florida restaurants turn these badass into delicacies.

Written by: april fulton

The elimination of invading lionfish is finally over, because they become a delicacy on the table. Last week, Whole Foods announced that lionfish would go on sale at the Florida Seafood Division (without toxic spikes, of course). This "tender and juicy white meat" is suitable for frying, sautéing, or making ceviche in ceviche.

Lionfish, native to India and the South Pacific, is a character who plays both a "supermodel" and a "well-known villain". They lack predators, rob native fish of their living space, and reproduce like crazy wherever they go. Luckily, they also taste good.

Erin Spencer, a young explorer at National Geographic, says one way to control lionfish populations is to eat them! (After all, females can lay 2 million eggs a year.)

Since the 1980s, lionfish have been appearing on the southeast coast of the United States. For divers there, it's a temptation that's hard to resist. But be sure to pay attention to those poisonous spikes. Spencer said that if poked, it would not be fatal, but it was better to live than to die.

The Red Lionfish is a beautiful beast! Their spikes look gorgeous, but they are actually deadly, so they are hardly targeted by predators. The good news is that they're delicious too!
