According to Argentine media reports, a cousin of Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo was shot dead by a retired police officer last Sunday for a speeding car snatch, while another involved in the robbery also died on the spot.
Rojo's brother, 17-year-old Groonimo Rojo, and another, 26-year-old Ivan Barbosa, have revealed in the media that this person is also Rojo's brother (or cousin). On Sunday night, a 50-year-old retired police officer, Anivar Díaz, had just come out of the cash machine when he was snatched by the Rojo brothers' flying car, and Díaz fired several shots at the two men, killing Ivan Barbosa on the spot and Granimo Rojo on the way to the hospital.
Police sources said the two had just committed a number of crimes, including robbing a supermarket and robbing a taxi driver. Díaz, a retired police officer who is currently under investigation, said that after the two young men had robbed him of the money, they pointed their weapons at him and could only shoot himself in self-defense.
In 2011, Rojo's family was involved in a series of crimes, and his brother was accused of three robberies. Rojo himself has been accused of attacking his neighbors with glass bottles.
It's not the first time a Brother of an Argentine player has committed a crime. In 2010, Tevez's brother Juan Alberto Martinez and another relative, Carlos Avaros Perón, were sentenced to 16 years in prison for robbing a cash truck in 2008.
In 2008, Juan Alberto Martinez and brother-in-law Carlos Avaros Carlos robbed a cash truck at a gas station in Córdoba, Argentina, with a masked gun, but the amateur two were unable to open the door of the truck. The two men fired several shots at the door of the cash truck with rifles in hand, but they could not destroy the armor of the money carrier at all. The two had to leave in a daze.
The Tevez brothers
Carlos Avaros Carlos was arrested and imprisoned a few months later, but Juan Alberto Martinez was formally arrested more than a year later.
