"White House Poet" Wu Fangji: Riding a donkey is more drunk in the west of the grass hall

Wu Fangji (1896-1932), a native of Jiangjin, Sichuan, was a modern poet who had a considerable influence on the literary world before and after the May Fourth Movement in China. He was well-read in poetry since he was a child, and he was brilliant, and he officially began poetry creation activities at the age of 18, and by the time of the "May Fourth" New Culture Movement, he was already a well-known poet in China.

His poems such as "Euphemism", "Patriotic Rock Words", and "Two Fathers and Daughters" became the best works recited throughout the country at that time. The most famous is his famous long poem "WanrongZi", which has been praised by the Chinese poetry circles as a masterpiece that is "almost comparable to "Peacock Southeast Flying". As soon as the poem was published, it caused a shock in the literary circles, and readers across the country rushed to recite it and was selected to be included in primary and secondary school textbooks. Even decades later, readers can still recite the whole text, which is a very rare thing in modern Chinese new poetry.

Poet and famous professor in Chengdu

Wu Fangji's talent was praised by the people of the time. In September 1927, Wu Fangji was invited by Zhang Lan, president of Chengdu University, to chengdu as a professor at Chengdu University. In 1928, he resigned from chengdu university for a short time and returned to his hometown of Baisha Town to major in the history of his alma mater Jukui Primary School, and was repeatedly invited by cheng masters and students to serve as the head of the Chinese department.

In education, Wu Fangji has never been casual, and he has always believed in the importance of the teacher's way: "The bad of the study style is based on the degeneration of the teacher's way as its general cause, and the teacher's degeneration is fixed by the lack of learning and morality and sincerity of the teacher; the first is that the person who runs the school cannot respect the teacher." However, it is not difficult for those who have the virtue to learn and sincerely think that they are teachers; those who can respect teachers who run schools must not get one! Such a belief supported him and made him draw a strong mark on the history of education in Chengdu.

Wu Fangji is a wandering poet. In order to make a living, in his short life of 36 years, Wu Fangji has been displaced in Shanghai, Xi'an, Shenyang, Chengdu, Chongqing and other places, traveling throughout most of China. Among them, more than 3 years in Chengdu was the most stable day of his life. From 1927 he was employed as a professor at Chengdu National University, public Sichuan University, and West China Union University, teaching ancient and modern poetry. His profound knowledge is deeply loved by students and he is one of the famous teachers in the history of Sichuan University.

Professor Yang Mingzhao, a research master of "Wenxin Carved Dragon", recalled: "Professor Wu Fangji, the author of the famous "WanrongZi", gave the class a lesson on "Introduction to Literature", and often wrote the original text of "Wenxin Carved Dragon". How many Kawauchi bunko did he create?

This is worth remembering today's Chengdu people...

In 1929, Wu Fangji was invited by the dean of the College of Letters of Sichuan University to Chu and concurrently serve as a professor at the institute. His time in Chengdu was short-lived, and what a wandering poet believed was that "young students in eastern Sichuan do not have to go to Beijing and Shanghai to have the opportunity to receive higher education, so as to cultivate a large number of talents who are both morally intelligent and indomitable, and contribute to the salvation of the poor and weak motherland", so he left Chengdu to accept the letter of appointment from Chongqing University and went to serve as the director and associate professor of the liberal arts preparatory department of the university.

The euphemism reads:

"Heaven forbid, where is the Americas?" The remaining body is upside down, not as good as your jade rabbit dog guarding the door. It's late, and the husband's heart doesn't turn back..."

Those children who grew up reading Wu Fangji's poems in Sichuan dialect will certainly not forget the impact of these words, nor will they forget this talented teacher.

Chengdu rich little Paris,

February 2019 of Hanakai.

The boat beat through the bamboo,

The tea pavilion is often low in willow shade.

The sunset smells everywhere,

Fang Trail Everyone Races In Gold.

The city que can't help it even at night,

Humble did not dare to forget the country

The young Wu Fangji is a hot-blooded youth. Not only is he diligent and studious, but he also has excellent grades, but at the age of 13, he also caused a sensation in the township because of the article "After Reading the History of Diplomatic Failure".

In 1910, Wu Fangji was admitted to the Beijing Tsinghua Preparatory School for Studying in the United States. After the opening of Tsinghua School, the students in the school were extremely disgusted by the contempt Chinese foreigners. Once, foreign teachers unreasonably insulted He Lu and Huang Bingli, provoking public indignation, and the students from various provinces elected representatives to negotiate with them according to their nationality, and Wu Fangji represented the Sichuan students. However, the school defended the interests of foreign teachers and expelled all student representatives from their student status. After the situation expanded, The Education Director Fan Yuanlian came forward and ordered the deputies to write a letter of repentance and return to school, and Wu Fangji believed that "there is no remorse for the people." "Angry and left school to return home. He was originally the proud son of heaven, but he ended up returning to his hometown.

But cry out for justice,

Who had the courage to do that in those days?

His wandering experiences provided a lot of material for his creations. He heard and witnessed the invasion of the great powers, the darkness of politics, and the rampant social phenomena of soldiers and bandits, combining the suffering of the people with his own ups and downs into immortal poetry. On the way to Rong, his emotions gushed out like a gushing river: "There has never been a general plug in the world's fortune, but it has not been complicated and urgent now." In this life, I know that if I come by chance, I will brush the feathers and vibrate the six wings." This sense of responsibility for the country and the people has always continued, even in the peaceful days of Chengdu, he has not forgotten the national martyrdom and the people's pain, he wrote in the "Pen on the New Year's Day of the Fifth Dynasty":

"Three days do not write about the sufferings of the people,

The article lives up to the heavens. ”

He was determined to use poetry as a clarion call, to shoot guns, to awaken the people, and to shoot at the enemy.

On the occasion of the "918 Incident" in 1931, Wu Fangji, who was the principal of Jiangjin Middle School at the time, read the newspaper late at night, saw this news, and immediately rang the school bell himself, gathering all the teachers and students of the school to march and protest in the streets.

In 1932, the "128" incident, the Japanese army attacked Shanghai, the Nineteenth Route Army rose up to resist the Japanese, Wu Fangji heard the news, generously sang, wanted to go to the front line alone to kill the enemy, was persuaded by teachers and students to return from the river. With unquenchable passion, he created the anti-Japanese poem "The Song of the Ba People" in praise of the 19th Route Army:

"Three thousand sons and daughters are like mountains,

The clothes are not bloodied..."

The poems that were recited for a while became a mobilization order to arouse the people's resistance to the war. On May 4, he was invited to Chongqing to give a speech to publicize the anti-Japanese resistance, and recited the "Ba Ren Song" in public, and thousands of listeners were silent, their blood boiling, and their faces were full of tears. Returning to Jiangjin, he conveyed to all the teachers and students of the school that night that all walks of life in Chongqing were sympathetic to the enemy and were concerned about the War of Resistance, and recited the "Song of the Ba People" again.

On May 9, 1932, Wu Fangji died at the age of 36, and more than 700 people were sent to the funeral.

What is a true poet?

The real poet should be the kind of man he wrote about.

"When the culture of Shidang is extinct, and when the race survives, it is a long way to go if it is a man who has established itself, and a person who has survived me."

After his untimely death, he left us with such works as "The Poetry Manuscript of Wu Sheng in the White House", "The Testament of Mr. Wu BaiWu", "The Words of the White House", and "The Book of the White House".

There has never been a shortage of poets in Chengdu

Poets also spared no effort to praise Chengdu

Whether it is a guest house or a local scholar, only those who really put the Jinguancheng in their hearts, write it on paper, and drum and shout for the times and the people will be remembered by history.
