After 13 years, the Henan Peking Opera Art Center was once again selected for the China Peking Opera Arts Festival with large-scale original plays.
As one of the "9th China Peking Opera Arts Festival" co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Beijing Municipal People's Government, on the evening of October 6, the original large-scale modern Peking Opera "Breakout Dabie Mountain" created by henan Peking Opera Art Center was staged in Zhengzheng. The wonderful performance and perfect stage presentation of the evening won the applause of the audience.
The Peking opera "Breakthrough dabie Mountain" mainly depicts the young shoots of the "little-footed woman" who died in the winter of 1934 due to the setback of marriage, and "happened to meet" five surviving Red Army fighters who served as a cover for the breakthrough of the troops. The soldiers of the Red Army, with their iron discipline and the spirit of proletarian revolutionary optimism of not being afraid of sacrifice, of hardship and danger, of daring to win, gave the young shoots a new understanding of how human life should be spent. At the juncture of life and death, for the sake of the lives of the Red Army soldiers, but also to live their own lives, the young shoots sacrificed themselves to save each other, covering the Red Army soldiers to rush out of the enemy's heavy encirclement, and the life of the young shoots was thus nirvana.
The drama takes the "double breakout" of the Red Army breakthrough and the protagonist's psychological breakthrough as the theme. In the historical background of the Red Twenty-fifth Army's Long March in November 1934, a bloody battle caused heavy losses to the Red Army, and the sacrificial soldiers remained in the landscape forever, while the wounded and left behind soldiers faced severe choices and tests. "Survive, break out, look for large troops" - this is a breakthrough of military significance; "this world is not easy to come, and you have to do something for yourself when you die" - this is a breakthrough in the meaning of the life of a young shoot. The drama shows the "big era" with "small stories", reflects the "big theme" with "small incisions", expresses "big feelings" with "small people", and further carries forward the spirit of "adhering to the faith, bearing the overall situation in mind, uniting as one, and bravely marching forward".
Wang Yunming, former secretary of the party group and researcher of the Chinese Dramatists Association, commented after watching the play: "A different kind of breakthrough trio! The play focuses on the unique character and stage presentation, and pursues the innovative development of modern Peking Opera, modernization and opera. ”
Wang Yunming believes that the three groups of characters in the play- the heroine Nenya'er's master servant, the five Red Army soldiers, and the Kuomintang regimental Changsha Qing troops, all interweave a strong and magnificent artistic landscape with unusual personality characteristics, sound and smile, and play a deep and magnificent trio symphony. It shows the ingenuity and skill of the choreographer to integrate the background of the times and the living environment into the shaping of the character image and the true description of the character's behavior in the revolutionary tendency, reflecting the deepening and enrichment of the realist creative concept. The play is also not conventional in terms of stage expression, structural layout, narrative methods, etc., and presents an artistic concept of innovation in Shouyuan or Shouyuan in innovation.
Tan Jingbo, a researcher at the Henan Provincial Academy of Culture and Art, said that "Breaking Through the Dabie Mountain" did not show the earth-shaking and arduous breakthrough battle carried out by the Red 25th Army in the foothills of the Dabie Mountains in 1934 with a "looking up" gaze, but instead paid attention to the young shoots of a folk woman without ideological aura from the unique perspective of "looking down" and cared for the fate of a war "bystander" with a compassionate gaze, which is the biggest highlight of the play.
In Tan Jingbo's view, the multi-faceted "breakthrough" achieved by the play makes the revolutionary war theme drama more humanistic, makes the Peking Opera art more modern, and has the heroic charm of breaking through the breakthrough.
Peking Opera "Breakthrough Dabie Mountain" was successfully selected for the 9th China Peking Opera Festival, which is the second time that the Henan Peking Opera Art Center has appeared in the China Peking Opera Arts Festival with a large-scale original repertoire since "Chang'e" in 2008 (selected for the 5th China Peking Opera Festival), which is of landmark significance. The play is a provincial-level public cultural service special fund support project in Henan Province, a key creative repertoire of the "Five Ones" project of the Propaganda Department of the Henan Provincial Party Committee in 2020, and a key creative repertoire of the Henan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism in 2021 to "present gifts to the centenary of the founding of the party". On April 17, 2021, he participated in the 15th Henan Provincial Drama Competition and won the Wenhua Award and a number of individual awards. On July 13, he participated in the "100 Years and 100 Performances" of Henan Province's outstanding stage art works to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the Henan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
After the offline performance, the modern Peking Opera "Breakthrough Dabie Mountain" will be "transferred" online, and will be launched at 15:00 on October 12 for a week online exhibition on the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's "Literature and Art China" video number, Drama APP and other platforms.
