On the first day he arrived there, Xu Benyu was shocked—he didn't expect such a bad place. Regardless of the lack of water and electricity, even the sanitary conditions are very poor. It is not uncommon to have flies and bugs in meals, and it is common to sleep at night with fleas crawling on the body.
But what shocked Xu Benyu the most was the look in the children's eyes.
On the first day of class, the 146 students of the school were full of curiosity about Xu Benyu and his party. When the children learned that they were "college students from the city," they longed for more information about what the outside world was like.
In the eyes of ordinary people, the way to obtain new knowledge is to read books, and the way to see the new world is only a ticket or a plane ticket; but for these children, the way to get new knowledge is to wait for books donated by others, and the way to see the new world is to go out of the mountains.
Regrettably, how many people can get out of the mountains, and how many people can live the ordinary level of life in the city? Thinking of this, Xu Benyu couldn't help but burst into tears.
The local teacher told Xu Benyu that if the children wanted to drink water, they had to go to the distance to fetch water, and in the winter, the children would suffer from the cold. But the harsh environment did not deprive humanity of its beauty. Xu Benyu told reporters that the mother of a student had secretly borrowed fifty eggs from neighbors to give them.
However, language barriers cannot hinder the growth of love. The 23-day course is enough for Xu Benyu to establish a deep relationship with the children. On the day the five people left, the students took the small red flag they had made to send them off, and walked until they reached the sheep farm dam three kilometers away before they reluctantly said goodbye.

In April 2003, Xu Benyu was about to graduate from college. Next, he has two paths to go: one is to go to graduate school at public expense with an excellent score of 372 points, and the other is to devote himself to volunteer teaching.
Since there was no precedent, his hope of retaining his two-year academic record to first volunteer teaching and then returning to graduate school was disappointed. This meant that Xu Benyu at that time had to choose a path and go down.

After much deliberation, he decided to go to Xu Benyu, a volunteer church, to write a letter to his family, hoping to get his family's support. The first is the language barrier, and the shy children have difficulty understanding Xu Benyu's Mandarin. Even though Xu Benyu spoke twenty times, they were still dazed. After teaching there for eight months, Xu Benyu heard that the conditions of Dashi Primary School were even worse, and without hesitation, he came to Dashi Primary School and began to write a new Chapter.

Finally, in July 2004, thanks to a post about Xu Benyu's volunteer teaching, "Two Rural Primary Schools and a Volunteer Teacher", Xu Benyu's efforts and hardships were finally displayed in front of the world.
