In August, the import volume of warm water shrimp decreased by 60% year-on-year, and the price advantage of Venezuelan white shrimp was highlighted.
According to Chinese customs statistics, the total amount of warm water shrimp products arriving in August was about 29,000 tons, down 49% month-on-month and 61% year-on-year; the value of goods was about US$153 million, down 51% month-on-month.
Unsurprisingly, China's shrimp imports from Ecuador plummeted to 16,500 tonnes in August, down 55% year-on-year, while India's white shrimp mouth was only 5,400 tonnes, down 67% year-on-year. Some Indian industry insiders reported that due to the escalation of the Sino-Indian border conflict, the customs clearance review time of Indian shrimp products by Chinese customs has been extended.

In addition, the number of shrimp products imported by China from Vietnam and Thailand is also declining, with Vietnamese shrimp imports of about 1,600 tons, down 55% year-on-year, and Thai shrimp imports of about 900 tons, down 53% year-on-year.
On the positive side, The import of white shrimp from Venezuela in August set a monthly record with imports of 1,700 tons, making Venezuela the third largest supplier of shrimp to China, behind Ecuador and India.
In terms of price, the average import price of Venezuelan white shrimp is only $3.62/kg, which is more than $1.00/kg cheaper than Ecuadorian white shrimp.
