Xie Tieli, who went out from Qingjiangpu in Huai'an, served as vice chairman of the China Filmmakers Association, is a representative figure of the third generation of Chinese film directors who enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad, and has choreographed and directed many films that have had a major impact, such as "Early Spring february", "Wise Tiger Mountain", "Haixia", "Tonight's Starry Night", "Liaozhai - Xi Fangping" and so on.
Beginning in 1983, he served as the writer and general director of his first film, Dream of the Red Chamber, which lasted for 15 years and was not filmed until 1989. The film "Dream of the Red Chamber" can be called the first huge film art project in the history of Chinese cinema, and is known as "the treasure of film art". As a result, he won the Best Director Award at the 10th Golden Rooster Awards for Chinese Cinema in 1990 and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th Golden Rooster Awards for Chinese Cinema in 2005 – the highest honor for film workers. In 2011, he won the 2nd China Film Directors Association Outstanding Contribution Award.
