Gao Yun graduated from Nanjing Academy of the Arts in 1982, majoring in Chinese painting. He is a national first-class artist, a director of the China Artists Association, a member of the Chinese Painting Art Committee, a deputy director of the National Art Museum Special Committee, and a vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Artists Association.

He is currently the deputy director of the Department of Culture of Jiangsu Province, the director of the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, the chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Senior Title Jury for Art, the standing committee member of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the visiting professor of Nanjing University of the Arts, the part-time professor of Nanjing University, and the tutor of master of art students of Nanjing Normal University.

His works have won one gold medal, one silver medal, two bronze medals and special awards at the National Art Exhibition, the best award for national stamp design, and the highest award in the third and fourth national comic strip awards. His works have been exhibited abroad many times, collected by institutions and individuals such as the National Art Museum of China, and included and published by the national publishing projects "Complete Collection of Chinese Modern Art", "Illustrated History of Chinese Art", "Chinese Art in the 21st Century" and so on. It is listed as one of the ten Chinese comic strip artists.

In addition, it has also won the first Jiangsu Provincial Government Award for Literature and Art awarded by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, the honorary title of the first Jiangsu Provincial Virtue and Art Shuangxin Artist, and the title of Young and Middle-Aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions in Jiangsu Province.
