When I was young, in addition to catching fish and insects, one of the remaining hobbies was to look for water earthworms everywhere, because in our small city there were no water earthworms for sale, only to fish for themselves. So until now, there is still a habit, that is, whenever you pass a stinky ditch or a ditch on the side of the road, as long as there is a long flowing water, you can't help but stop and look at it twice.

The nutritional value of water earthworms is extremely high, the protein content accounts for more than 60%, is one of the live foods that ornamental fish like very much, but their living environment is mostly in the smelly ditch with more humus, and it is a shallow water area, preferably long running water.
Because of their habits, most of the day time is curled up in a clump, half of the body is deep in the mud, the other half is shaking on the surface of the water, so to catch them is necessary to go home with the bottom of the silt, there will be a very small part is very clean, but this will inevitably bring in a certain amount of silt.
And after returning home, the treatment will be very troublesome, need to rinse continuously, first of all, they should be placed in a closed bucket, let stand for a period of time, but not too long, too long they will lack oxygen and forget, this also depends on the room temperature at that time.
Then, due to the lack of oxygen inside, the water earthworms will climb on top of the silt and continue to shrink into a clump, and we can gently carry them to the basin.
The careful treatment of water earthworms is that to make them have a process of spitting out sediment, this process requires great patience, during which the water quality needs to be constantly replaced, and the water must be changed two or three times a day, and under the action of clean water, their body color will become more bright red.
And in the use of clean water continuous flushing, if it is fished out of the water earthworm is too fine or too small, they will soon be washed away by the water flow, and then instantly into the sewer, in short, is to wash once less, their own fishing is actually more painful, now buy them, the price is not very cheap, dozens of pounds.
Moreover, even if they are let spit out of sediment, if they are not careful, the water temperature is high, they will still have partial death, because the oxygen of this thing is extremely high, and it needs to be rinsed several times before feeding almost every time.
The general practice is to pour them into the basin, use a chopstick, repeatedly stir the water quality, let it produce centrifugal effect, the water earthworm will disperse, and then when they begin to cluster relatively, the dead water earthworm and impurities will be poured out, repeatedly, every day.
It is reasonable to say that the family environment is not suitable for raising water earthworms at all, they need a large water body, shallow water level, long flow water environment, we want to make them spit out the sediment, become clean, but also want to prevent them from becoming thin or not dead, almost impossible.
So, in a few days, they may be finished.
Unless they are put in the refrigerator refrigerator using shallow plates and gauze, they cannot be frozen, and judging by the appearance of this thing, there is no parent or wife or child who likes us to put it in the refrigerator.
Because water earthworms have the characteristics of liking to gather, they are generally fed in special food boxes, which is equivalent to the kind of funnel, and need to use thin wire to make a small fork-like thing when feeding, so that fishing will be more convenient.
For example, most of the small tropical fish, including the oviparous peacock fish, red arrows, etc., fighting fish, lamp fish and so on too many species, like to eat red worms, as long as they can eat, many medium and large tropical fish fry also need this thing.
The specifications of this funnel are mostly the same, up to two specifications, which causes that if the eye hole of the funnel is too large and the water earthworm is too thin, it will soon fall from the funnel to the bottom of the fish tank, and if there is some bottom sand or obstacles at the bottom of the fish tank, they may not necessarily hide where.
Another problem is that if they fall in a ball, for goldfish with large mouths, they may eat in one bite, other fish can not grab food at all, we also need to feed again, and it is easy to cause a fish to overeat and induce enteritis.
These problems may be encountered in actual operation, and another is that at the current price of water earthworms, if you feed them goldfish, it is estimated that the fish food money is more expensive than feeding the dragon fish, which is a bit uneconomical, unless you can fish it yourself, but now in the wild, this thing is also very little.

In addition to the above reasons for the reluctance of aquarists to use water earthworms to feed fish, more factors are derived from water earthworms more bacteria and parasites, especially at present, the water pollution everywhere is generally heavier, many aquarists do not dare to easily feed their ornamental fish.
In fact, this problem, mainly depends on our ornamental fish physique, some extremely sensitive ornamental fish, such as swallow fish, colorful, golden wave and the like, we still feed less as good, as for the disinfection of water earthworms, I feel completely unnecessary, even if we can disinfect, it may not be so thorough.
In other words, even if our disinfection work is thorough, if we do not deal with it in place, dead bugs and rotten bugs are also fed to ornamental fish, they can still suffer from enteritis, because the treatment of this thing is completely dependent on day-to-day patience, as long as the water quality is always clean, the color of water earthworms is always bright red, and feeding ornamental fish will not be a big problem.
Like when I was a child, I would often feed goldfish, peacock fish, red swordfish, fighting fish, and swallow fish with water earthworms, and I didn't see any situations where they were not adapted.
