The white-throated fantail is listed in the Field Manual of Chinese Birds No. 670 (scientific name: rhipidura albicollis).
It is a small bird of the ornithischia family, weighing 9–14 g and measuring 151–202 mm long.
The whole body is black and gray, the head is darker and nearly black, and the chin, throat, and eyebrow lines are white, which is very conspicuous on the dark head.
The underparts are dark gray and distinguish them from the white-browed fantails, but there are individuals with lighter underparts.
The tail is long and wide, often fan-shaped, with the exception of a central pair of tail feathers, and the rest of the tail feathers have a broad white tip. The iris is brown, and the mouth and feet are black.
Humid mountain forests up to 3,000 meters above sea level. Like other fantails. Joins a mixed flock of birds, often inhabiting dense bamboo forests.
The sound is high and thin, with three equally spaced "tut" sounds followed by three or more descending tones; also a shrill "cheet" sound.
Feeds mainly on insects and insect larvae. It is found in the Himalayas, southern China, Southeast Asia and the Sunda Islands.
Nominate subspecies breed in southeastern Tibet, southwestern China and Hainan Island.
