Why: The Fifth Symphony occupies a pivotal place in Mahler's work— the first purely instrumental symphony since the composer's first symphony, composed between 1901 and 1902, with the famous jutsu movement being Mahler's love letter to his bride Alma. Karajan once said that when one listens to Mahler's Fifth Symphony, "you forget that time has quietly passed." A great Fifth Symphony performance was one of a transformation. The wonderful final movement almost forces you to hold your breath." Coinciding with the 110th anniversary of Mahler's death, Xinghai Concert Hall and Guangzhou Opera House jointly launched the "2021 Guangzhou MAHLE Works Exhibition", which will have more than 20 performances throughout the year, intensively presenting MAHLE's symphonies, art songs and chamber music works, so that fans can listen to MAHLE and understand MAHLE from different dimensions.
"Big Country Talk"

Reason for recommendation: Wu Yulie, the new artistic director of the Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Company (ccdc), whose ancestral home is Taishan, Guangdong Province, premiered his latest work "Big Country Talk", and a group of ccdc dance artists used their bodies to conform to the melody of the times, shuttling back and forth between rest and travel, heading to the unseen "countryside".
