Protesters held aloft signs for Justice for Toledo, and one speaker chanted "(We've had enough)."

On the 15th, the Chicago police released the law enforcement video of the Toledo incident. The video was taken by a law enforcement recorder worn by the police officer involved, Eric Stillman. The footage shows that in the early morning of March 29, local time, Stillman chased Toledo in an alley of a Mexican-American neighborhood in Chicago's West Side, ordering him to "stand still" and raise his hands. As if to raise his hands, Stillman fired a shot at him in the chest. Toledo died on the spot.

Looking at the video footage in a freeze-motion, Toledo's right hand appears to be holding a pistol-shaped object. Footage from other surveillance footage shows Toledo stopping at a fence in an alley, placing his right arm behind the fence, making a throwing motion, then turning to the police and raising his hands. Police video showed a pistol behind the fence that might have been discarded by Toledo.

Stillman's lawyer, Tim Grace, told The Associated Press that Toledo was "holding a gun in his right hand and looking at the police" and that Stillman had no choice but to shoot. But Adina Weiss-Ortiz, a lawyer for tonlet's multiple people, said Toledo obeyed Stillman's orders to lay down his arms and that the policeman "should not shoot unarmed people."

Before the April 16 protests began, lawyers for several of Tolle's men issued statements calling for peaceful protests. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called on the public to remain calm before the release of the video of the crime on the 15th.
