Miao Jie: Three Years of Helping Farmers find "Hometown"

At the end of 2018, when Miao Jie finally wrote "Hometown", it had been at least three years since he was last associated with "Mizuki Qinghua". For three years, he worked in the countryside to help local farmers find their hometowns.

Since 2015, Miao Jie has set up a team to help farmers and started to help farmers, and in 2016, he established a platform to help farmers in remote villages sell agricultural products, and has now successfully completed 78 agricultural assistance projects through this platform, effectively promoting the development of many poor counties. "Everything in the song is something I've seen and experienced firsthand." Miao Jie said that he must always go on this road of helping farmers.

To make the remote countryside better

Established a platform for purchasing and donating to agriculture

Before doing the work of helping farmers, Miao Jie was already doing public welfare - helping migrant workers to receive training to take the college entrance examination to change their fate, and has helped 30,000 migrant workers to enter the university.

In the process of doing this, Miao Jie found that this kind of training can solve the knowledge problem of migrant workers in the short term, but it is difficult to solve it if they really integrate into the city, "that is, a Chinese most often has that kind of homesickness complex, I think we should consider this matter from another perspective, why a person is so far away from home, no matter how bitter he is in the city, it can only mean that his home is more bitter than here." ”

Thinking of this, Miao Jie decided to change his mind, the most important thing to solve is the problem of the source, "If a person's hometown can become beautiful, then who is willing to leave their hometown and leave home for thousands of miles?" So Miao Jie began to plan another way to help them: change the environment in his hometown and let more people go home. And in what way, it has also been considered for a long time.

Initially, Miao Jie and his team thought that they could go to the countryside to help farmers cultivate land. But then it turned out that it didn't work, "This is not what we are good at, we can't grow better than others." Then I considered training farmers to sell their own products online, but this was not reliable.

"Now there are so many professional sellers, if you really want to help him, you should do what you are good at: the farmer brothers should study how to get things right, make the products good, and then we promote the products through our own resources, connections and influence."

So Miao Jie founded a "hometown visitor" to buy instead of donating to help farmers, to buy high-quality agricultural products at high prices in remote villages, packaging and then selling through the Internet, which became a new cause of Miao Jie.

The most successful case is to take 20 million orders

A sense of accomplishment in selling unsalable produce

In the past three years, Miao Jie and his team have run more than 20 provinces and nearly 100 counties across the country, selling red dates, lotus roots, apples, tea leaves, potatoes... Helped thousands of farmers.

Miao Jie admitted that because there is no middleman link, there are currently some small profits. But the platform is not for the purpose of pursuing profits, Miao Jie stressed that the platform does not accept donations, but all aspects of the platform operation need money, if there is some profit, it can also be used for the development of the team, so that this thing becomes sustainable. "Farmers have the resources to get help and get more income, and the consumers of the platform can spend less money to get better products, and at the same time help others, I think everyone is satisfied."

In the past three years of exploration, there have been setbacks, there have been confusions, and even been cheated of money, losing hundreds of thousands of dollars (Miao Jie felt that this experience was full of negative energy and did not want to recall it again), but Miao Jie always believed that it was worth doing this, and finally proved that this model was successful.

At the beginning of 2016, Miao Jie and his team learned through the media that the jujube in Linxian County, Shanxi was unsalable, so he went to the most unsalable place of the jujube in Linxian County overnight, after understanding the situation, he took out a million to help local farmers, Miao Jie also mobilized and used his own resources to package and promote the high-quality jujubes he had acquired, and after nearly two months of efforts, he got 20 million orders online, which also became a successful case for them.

At the end of 2017, Miao Jie walked into Fan County, Henan Province for the first time, and only saw the endless lotus fields, but he could not see a person. Because the lotus root is not marketable, farmers dare not dig out the lotus root (there is an order to dig, once the lotus root is dug out, it will quickly break), they do not know where the way out is. The whole village, and even the surrounding villages, were lifeless, and the peasants' eyes were full of confusion and helplessness.

This brought a great shock to Miao Jie's heart, and he told himself that he would do his best to change this situation no matter what. After a week of hard work, Miao Jie and the team got the first order, followed by the second, the third... Then one order after another poured in. When Miao Jie stepped into this land again, that change, that impact made him unforgettable.

"The weather of the whole village is completely different, and suddenly it becomes vibrant, that is, every family is digging lotus roots in the ground, and then the face is filled with that smile, that hope, and you will suddenly find that we have made their lives hopeful and purposeful." You're like, oh, what we're doing really makes sense, and that sense of accomplishment is completely different from the sense of accomplishment we have when we make music. Music may give people a soothing heart, a certain level of soothing, but to help the farmer, you can light up the hope in his heart, change his life and even his destiny. ”

Be inspired by authentic experiences

Polished for three years to launch "Hometown"

The transition from making music to helping farmers is quite large, but for Miao Jie, it means a lot. Of course, his main business is to sing.

At the end of 2018, Miao Jie launched a new song "Hometown", this song has been polished for three years, and it is the work of helping farmers that has given him such inspiration and precipitation: by the babbling river, the smoke of cooking, the smell of rice flowers, the leisurely fields, the children in other places, the parents have frost, this year's harvest is busy, when to return to the hometown... The water at home is sweeter and the moon is brighter, why bother to go to another country... These pictures are what he really saw; these feelings are also what he really tasted. Most of the shots in the mv of the song are filmed by Miao Jie and the team going to the countryside to help farmers, and the tea farmers at the beginning of the film are sung in the original voice, and they are also improvised singing by local farmers recorded by local farmers with their mobile phones when Miao Jie went to Yunnan to help farmers.

Miao Jie admitted that after so many years of making music, it is no longer possible to have a strong desire to create at any time and anywhere like when he was young, and the matter of helping farmers gives him the opportunity to do different things, experience different people and things, and bring new passions and desires to express, "even not only for himself to express his heart, but also for these people." ”

Miao Jie said that this matter will continue to be done, "I told the team, as long as we still have passion, are willing to persevere, as long as there are people in need, we will continue to do." ”
