I saw this question the other day: What does the poem "Yan Lai" written by Wei Zhuang of the Tang Dynasty mean?

Wei Zhuang is the representative lyricist of the Huajian School of Words, and is known as Wen Wei together with Wen Tingjun. At the same time, he was a famous poet of the late Tang Dynasty, and he was nicknamed "Qin Woman Yin Xiucai" for a poem describing Chang'an during the Huangchao Uprising.

The poem "Yan Lai" asked by the subject is a seven-sentence poem:

Last year to resign the nest to leave the neighbors, now come to the empty grass hall new. The blossom should be asked, not the old owner of the village.

Wei Zhuang's poem looks a lot like a pastoral poem, but it doesn't seem so simple.

Last year to resign the nest to leave the neighbors, now come to the empty grass hall new.

Last year, he said goodbye to his neighbors and left his home, and today he returns to the old place and finds that the grass hall has a new look.

The blossom should be asked, not the old owner of the village.

The spring flowers bloom, the swallows whisper, as if relatively speaking, and this place does not seem to be the home of the past. When readers see this poem, it is estimated that nine times out of ten they will think of another seven-in-one poem: Liu Yuxi's "Wuyi Lane".

Anyone who reads the poems of the yin yong swallow is likely to think of "Wang XieYan" in Liu Yuxi's "Wuyi Lane", which is also written about swallows, what is the difference:

Wild grass flowers by the Suzaku Bridge, the sunset at the mouth of Wuyi Lane. In the old days, Wang Xie Tang Qianyan flew into the homes of ordinary people.

The first two sentences write about the decaying scenery of Wuyi Lane, and the last two sentences borrow the image of swallows to write about the rise and fall of ancient and modern times.

Wang Xieyan has since become a commonly used allusion, such as Jiang Kui's "Nian Nu Jiao, Former Journey Is Not Far Away" has "said that with Yiyi Wang Xie Yan, there should be a cool breeze season." Lü Benzhong's "Spring Wind" has: "I don't see Liang Jianyan, the Empty SorrowFul King Xie Family." Xin Abandoned Disease had: "I want to swallow this year, I still recognize it, Wang Xie is flowing." ”

Wei Zhuang's second sentence says: Caotang is new, now is better than the past; while Liu Yuxi's first two sentences through Wuyi Lane and wild grass flowers express "the present is not as good as the past," the two poems are a comparison between the past and the present.

Wei Zhuang and Liu Yuxi's swallows are all swallows from last year, but Liu Yuxi's swallows have an extra layer of historical vicissitudes. The original Wang Xie family has become a home for ordinary people, which has the feelings of the rise and fall of the ancient world, the rise and fall of glory and decline.

And Wei Zhuang's poem reads for the first time like an ordinary idyllic poem. But not necessarily. It should be known that Wei Zhuang's era was the last year of the Tang Dynasty, when social turmoil and swords and soldiers were everywhere. Zhu Wen usurped power in the Tang Dynasty and established the first dynasty of the Five Dynasties: Liang. Therefore, Wei Zhuang may use the grass hall to indicate the change of dynasty, and the replacement of the old master may be some point.

After reading the comparison of swallows in Liu Yuxi's "Wuyi Lane" and Wei Zhuang's "Yanlai", let's take a look at Shi Dazu's "Double Swallows", which Wang Shizhen evaluated as "Qiaoji Tiangong":

It's over the spring, in the middle of the curtain, last year's dust and cold. Poor pool want to live, try to enter the old nest phase and merge. They also carved Liang Zaojing, and softly discussed uncertainly. Fluttering quickly, the green tail parted the red shadow. Fang Trail, celery mud rain run, love to fly closely, compete and praise light handsome. The Red Chamber returns to the evening, and the willows are dark and flowery. Ying Qixiang was stable, and forgot tianya Fangxin. Sorrow for the loss of Cui Dai double moth, day by day painting alone.

The poem must be anthropomorphic when written well, and this poem combines the depiction of the swallow's demeanor with the emotional behavior of the characters, and Wang Shichen gave a very high evaluation in "Flowers and GrassEs":

Every time the servant reads Shi Bangqing's Yongyan words, he thinks that the Yongwu has reached this point, and the people are extremely clever and wrong.

However, comparing the swallows in this poem with the swallows of Liu Yuxi and Wei Zhuang can be seen to be somewhat different. Shi Dazu's swallow did not have too deep sustenance, just as an incompetent messenger; Liu Yuxi's Wang XieYan obviously had the feeling of the rise and fall of the ancient world; and the swallows in Wei Zhuang's "Yan Lai" seemed to be hidden, and the last two sentences, "The flowers should be asked, not the old master of the village," said eloquently, out of nothing, faint and thick. More intriguing.

If Wei Zhuang's "Yan Lai" is regarded as an ordinary pastoral poem, then like Shi Dazu's "Double Yan", it is only written with Jing Yong, which is obviously different from Liu Yuxi.

If Wei Zhuang's "Yan Lai" is regarded as a metaphor for the Liang Dynasty Tang Dynasty, it is much more clever. Did Wei Zhuang think so? That's not clear. The dual context and meaning of poetry are its most fascinating features.
