The biggest espionage case since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the spy Liu Liankun was arrested

author:History of Dong Ge Guan

On the evening of March 8, 1996, the People's Liberation Army ignited and launched four DF-15 missiles across the Taiwan Strait for the first time. That night, both the mainland and Taiwan were so nervous that they were suffocating, and no one knew what would happen tomorrow. Ten days later, the Central Military Commission organized a joint combat exercise between the navy, the army, and the air force in the Taiwan Strait.

At this time, the Crisis in the Taiwan Strait can be said to have reached a climax, and many pressures have oppressed the Taiwan authorities. Many kmtones at the top of the Kuomintang even considered matters related to surrender, but at the crucial moment when the situation was developing in our favor, Taiwan's Lee Teng-hui began to vigorously publicize on the island that the PLA's missiles were empty-packed bombs. Suddenly, two US aircraft carrier battle groups entered Taiwan's overseas waters with great fanfare. Due to the modification of the GPS coordinate parameters by the US side, Our satellite-guided weapons were completely paralyzed, and it was impossible to track the first aircraft carrier battle group. All these factors have changed the direction of the situation, and the situation that was originally favorable to me has suddenly become unclear, and the central authorities have lost the absolute message of victory. Taking into account various factors, the central authorities can only decide to temporarily release the Taiwan issue to avoid further deterioration of the situation. On March 25, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense officially announced that they had achieved the expected purpose of the exercise. The exercise has come to an end, a crisis in the Taiwan Strait that could have been likely to rewrite history. In this way, it has become a pity that our army ended the military exercise early.

However, although the real purpose of this military exercise has not been achieved, Lee Teng-hui's idea of empty package bombs has attracted the attention of the Central Military Commission; after all, empty package bombs are high-level secrets of our army and can be known to the Taiwan side. This meant that there must have been traitors within me, and it was not small, so this immediately attracted the attention of the Central Military Commission. A silent hoeing operation was quietly launched. After the 96th Military Exercise, our army began to conduct secret investigations of personnel involved in secrets. Due to the high level of leaked intelligence, the scope of investigation was already small, and the investigators handling the case were meticulous in their investigation, so the spearhead was quickly pointed at Liu Liankun. However, in order to correct the spy network behind Liu Liankun, the central government did not rush to attack him, and it was not until March 1999 that liu Liankun was arrested in one fell swoop when he betrayed intelligence again, thus arresting him and bringing him to justice. At the same time, it destroyed the intelligence organization that the Military Intelligence Agency had worked hard to establish. So far, from his entry into the industry in 1992 to his arrest in 1999, Liu Liankun has been a spy for seven years, and countless intelligence has been leaked through his hands, causing considerable impact and harm to our country.

After Liu Liankun's arrest, he confessed to his espionage. Soon, his introducer Shao Zhengzong was also exposed and arrested. Liu Liankun's case can be called the largest espionage case cracked since the founding of New China, and the high level of his military rank is touching, his behavior is heinous, heinous, and the impact is so great that the whole country is shocked. After a trial by the people's court, Liu Liankun was sentenced to death by lethal injection for espionage and endangering national security, deprived of political rights for life, and executed in August of that year. According to the confession, he was plotted by Shao Zhengzong, and Shao Zhengzong's head was Zhang Zhipeng. Zhang Zhipeng was originally a non-staff agent of the Military Intelligence Agency, a businessman, and had a large industry in Taiwan and Hong Kong. After the mainland opened up, Yin Zongwen, director of Taiwan's Military Intelligence Bureau, asked him to go to the mainland to invest in order to wait for the opportunity to serve the party-state. Zhang Zhipeng met with Shao Zhengzong often because of his business dealings. During the meeting, Shao Zhengzong often asked Zhang Zhipeng about the situation in Taiwan and abroad. Zhang Zhipeng then believed that this person had two hearts, so he plotted against Shao Zhengzong and stole a large amount of confidential information from him. In 1992, Shao Zhengzong reached retirement age, so he expressed to Taiwan that he wanted to leave the mainland. This time, Taiwan's Military Intelligence Agency did not directly refuse, but put forward a condition to him, asking him to develop a senior officer to take over his heavy responsibility. Shao Zhengzong was not ambiguous, and it did not take long to give the best candidate. This person was his direct leader, Major General Liu Liankun, director of the General Logistics ordnance Department of the People's Liberation Army. His intelligence was naturally much more useful than Shao Zhengzong's. In January 1996, Liu Liankun got the tone of the military exercise from his superiors, and he immediately reported this information to the Taiwan side. Before the launch of the Orient Missile, he learned the secret of the empty package bomb through his own authority, and then told Taiwan that the empty package bomb was not alarmed.

After receiving Liu Liankun's intelligence, the Taiwan side stepped up its deployment. On the one hand, targeted defensive measures have been taken militarily, and the military dangers on the mainland have been hyped up through the media. On the other hand, Lee Teng-hui, leader of the Taiwan authorities, sent special people to the United States to request the United States to intervene in the situation in the Taiwan Strait. During the 1996 military exercise, which coincided with Taiwan's presidential campaign, Lee Teng-hui, in order to be re-elected, did not hesitate to take out the information content provided by Liu Liankun in his speech, and vigorously exaggerated that the Oriental missile was an empty bomb to reassure the people. Because of Li's remarks, the mainland corrected Liu Liankun and Shao Zhengzong.

After Liu Liankun was executed, Shao Zhengzong was also executed in a secret trial by the court and received the punishment he deserved. As for Zhang Zhipeng and Yin Zongwen, although they escaped punishment from the mainland, they fell out with the authorities in Taiwan. A prison that is restricted from leaving the country and a prison where a well sits also does not end up in a good situation, and it is also a deserved crime.
