Do you know? Bird Love Week is coming! Bird Love Week is an activity carried out by China to protect birds and maintain the balance of natural ecology. In September 1981, the State Council of China approved the report "Request for Instructions on Strengthening the Implementation of the Sino-Japanese Migratory Bird Protection Agreement" by the former Ministry of Forestry and eight other departments, requiring all provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government to conscientiously implement it, and designating a week from the end of April to the beginning of May each year as "Bird Love Week", during which various publicity and education activities were carried out. The theme of this year's Bird Love Week is "Fasting Wild Game, Giving "Feather" Life To Cherish", "Eliminating Bad Habits, Highlighting Civilization".
On February 24, 2020, the 16th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress voted to adopt the Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Completely Banning Illegal Wildlife Trade, Eliminating the Bad Habit of Eating Wild Animals, and Effectively Protecting the People's Life, Health and Safety. The "Decision" stipulates that the total prohibition of eating wild animals is as follows↓↓↓
There are 1445 species of birds in China, accounting for about one-sixth of the world's bird species. The number of bird species in Chongming District accounts for about 26.3% of the number of bird species in the country.
Chongming District land area of 1411 square kilometers, wetland area of 2043 square kilometers, land area accounted for only about 22% of the city's Chongming District, more than 58% of the city's natural beach wetlands, carrying more than 70% of the city's waterbird population, according to the Chongming bird survey monitoring data over the years, Chongming District has a total of about 382 species of birds, of which the national first-level key protected animals are white-headed cranes, black storks, white-tailed seabirds and other 6 species, the national second-level key protected animals have black-faced spoonbills, cygnets and other 54 species. Chongming District is the area with the highest concentration of wetland resources in Shanghai and the most biodiverse area in Shanghai, and plays an important role in the city's natural ecosystem.
In 2009, the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government proposed the goal of building Chongming Island into a modern ecological island, which embodies the high unity of the national strategy, Shanghai mission and Chongming vision, and is the only way for Chongming's scientific development, with profound characteristics of the times and far-reaching historical significance. Our district conscientiously implements the central government's decision-making and deployment on accelerating the construction of ecological civilization and "jointly grasping great protection and not engaging in large-scale development" along the Yangtze River, and further proposes to promote the construction of Chongming's world-class ecological island with a higher position, a wider vision and a firmer goal orientation, and strive to build Chongming Island into a natural museum and migratory bird paradise for birds.
