Chen Shunyou is 43 years old this year. 11 years ago, he undertook the responsibility of establishing the Pediatric Orthopedic Department of fuzhou Second Hospital, not only curing many small patients, but also letting the hospital's pediatric orthopedic treatment technology lead the province, and scientific research was fruitful. Not long ago, he also won the title of "Most Beautiful Science and Technology Worker" in Fuzhou city in 2021.

Scientific research achievements go abroad
In 2010, the Second Municipal Hospital decided to take the lead in establishing an independent pediatric orthopedic department in the province.
At that time, pediatric orthopedics could be described as a "hot potato", and many adult orthopedic doctors were reluctant to take this risk. Because pediatrics is "dumb" (young children can't self-report their condition), pediatric orthopedics is more difficult to do. But in the face of the appointment, Chen Shunyou gladly accepted and faced the challenge.
It's not easy to talk about a department from scratch.
Today, the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics of the Second Municipal Hospital has become the largest and standardized pediatric orthopedic center in Fujian Province. Who would have thought that when this department was first established more than 10 years ago, there were only 3 doctors plus Chen Shun. They worked day and night, working overtime until the early hours of the morning every day, and had to undertake the annual outpatient volume of more than 30,000 people and the annual number of 2,000 units of surgery.
Pediatric orthopedic treatment is not a "scaled-down" version of adult orthopedics, and many of the methods and principles for treating adults do not apply to children. Chen Shunyou, an adult trauma orthopedic surgeon, also needs to "start from scratch". At that time, the domestic experience in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic diseases was still relatively lacking, in order to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment, in his spare time, Chen Shunyou pounced on relevant foreign literature. Therefore, he can always bring the latest research progress of discipline technology to the department for the first time, and bring hope to children with difficult diseases.
Under the leadership of Chen Shunyou, the pediatric orthopedic department of the hospital not only leads in the diagnosis and treatment level in the province, but also bears fruitful results in scientific research. He has presided over the Provincial Natural Science Foundation project, the Provincial Health Department Innovation Project, etc., and the research results have been published in top journals at home and abroad for many times, and one of the papers has become a precedent for the domestic orthopedic community to publish clinical articles in international top journals.
There is hard power in diagnosis and treatment

Chen Shunyou not only has exquisite skills, but also has the benevolent heart of treating each child as his own child.
Every year, Chen Shunyou treats thousands of children, many of whom come from all over the country. In order not to let these parents pounce, Chen Shunyou's mobile phone is always turned on 24 hours a day, "there is a problem, feel free to contact", as long as the patient needs, he is always on call.
"If this were our child, how would we treat it?" This is the most frequent sentence that Chen Shunyou says in his daily work. His working principle is that he will never "cut unnecessary knives" on his children, but he will not easily give up any glimmer of hope that will make children stand up.
There was a child with neurofibromatosis scoliosis, and if there is no surgery, it may be breathing difficulties and life-threatening, parents and children to the country's major hospitals, but because of the high risk and difficulty of surgery, no hospital dares to accept treatment. But Chen Shun did not refuse, and after communicating with the family, he studied the operation plan in detail and successfully completed the operation for the child. After the operation, the child not only saved his life, but also straightened his back and was able to walk normally.
Chen Shunyou also often prepares free prosthetic orthoses for children. At the beginning of 2020, the Provincial Disabled Persons' Federation issued a subsidy document for auxiliary devices, but the application procedures were cumbersome. Chen Shunyou ran to the disabled persons' federation in many counties and cities to communicate, and finally listed his department as an auxiliary device evaluation institution recognized by the provincial disabled persons' federation, and patients only need to pass the department assessment to submit subsidy applications, which is convenient for patients and reduces their economic burden.
