He Xiaojuan vivi, deputy producer of Ubisoft's Toronto studio for Far Cry 6, was recently interviewed by bahamut, who shared more of the design ideas behind Far Cry 6.
Vivi has been in the game industry for 13 years and has been involved in the development of a number of AAA games, including Assassin's Creed: Origins, Assassin's Creed: Owl, Assassin's Creed: Rogue, Black Sails and the casual game Blue Elf. Vivi's work experience at Ubisoft's Chengdu studio, Ubisoft's Singapore studio and now at Ubisoft's Toronto studio has given her a deep understanding of game development in different cultural contexts.

GNN: Is the worldview of Far Cry 6 related to previous series? Or is it a completely different parallel world?
VIVI: It's a different parallel world. This time we take the player to a new world called Yala, a tropical island paradise located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea. This time we focus on the theme of "guerrilla revolution", and we want to describe a country that seems to be stuck in time, a modern revolution that has taken place in this country.
gnn: The puppy chorizo and the crocodile handsome guy (guapo) look like very good comrades (amigo), will there be more different pets?
Vivi: The Beast Hire System is a very popular design for the Far Cry series, and this time we have brought a lot of new friends. Like the meat sausage dog you just mentioned, don't be fooled by its cute appearance! Our entire development team loves it, but its skill is to use its cute appearance to attract the attention of enemy troops and create sneak attack opportunities for players. And my own favorite is the crocodile handsome guy just mentioned, we will all jokingly call him "Super Soldier Crocodile", if you take it to the battlefield, you can not only be born and die with you, but even make you feel like a god on the battlefield, unstoppable. There are many other partners who have not yet had the opportunity to appear, but I believe that players will definitely find their favorite super partners in the game.
GNN: We see that there are many different vehicles this time, can you further explain the characteristics of this game? Will the animals be able to board the vehicle this time?
VIVI: You can see in the video of the guerrilla mentor Juan who teaches you how to be a guerrilla, and there is actually a small show of guerrilla cars. I think that's also very, very cool, and in addition to customizing their appearance to suit their preferences, players can even be your second home! You can equip it with weapons and equipment, and it can also become your small ammo depot, help you replenish your guns and ammunition, and so on. If I could drive this car in the beautiful Yala Mercedes, I think it must be very, very windy!

gnn: The protagonist can customize the gender this time, will choosing the male or female protagonist affect the story or some bridges?
vivi: At the beginning of the story, the player is asked to choose the gender of the protagonist, who has his own motives and some struggles, and has his own story. Whether it is a male protagonist or a female protagonist, both of them are full voice in the game, and then on some specific occasions they can see their own appearance. But choosing a man or a woman doesn't really have an impact on the game's story, we just wanted to provide some options for players to choose according to their preferences.
Gnn: What do you think is the biggest evolution or feature of Far Cry 6 compared to previous series?
Vivi: I think first of all, like the "self-made spirit" I just mentioned, this piece is completely reflected in all aspects of the game for us, including the structure of the state in the game, the design of the game system, and the tasks. The most prominent of these are our self-made weapons, such as the canned sardines we see in our daily lives, or cd players, or motorcycle engines, etc. Imagine if you were living in Yara now, in an environment of scarcity, what would you do with them? In Far Cry 6, they transform into unique and novel deadly weapons. One of the weapons is called the Crazy Brush Machine, which can play music and kill enemies, and I think this design is super great!
In order to give players the opportunity to fight against Anton's powerful army, our old predecessors will also use the spirit of self-creation to the extreme, tailoring a variety of "best" backpacks for players. For example, the Fury Backpack, when you are surrounded by enemy troops, will spew a circle of flames to make you break through the siege, or our Destroyer Backpack can fire a bazooka, even if it is a tank or an airplane! Each backpack has its own characteristics and special attacks, and I think that's the point of making our players invincible on the battlefield. Therefore, in this work, the choice of weapons is more important than any moment, and Anton's powerful army is no joke. In addition, we want players to be immersed in the status of guerrilla revolutionaries, so we have some special activities, such as you can ambush the enemy, intercept their supplies or intercept their information, and even bribe their officers.
gnn: Invites fried chicken uncle giancarlo esposito to play Yala dictator Anton. What is the rationale for Kasdi Road? Can you reveal the ins and outs of the invitation to him?
VIVI: Like you mentioned, some of the villains he's played before have been very impressive. In our contact with him, we found that his understanding of the empathy of the character was very much in line with our setting for the character. We want Anton to be a flesh-and-blood, very three-dimensional figure, and in constructing this character we have done a lot of research to explore the common characteristics of some dictators and rulers in history. Anton is a very charismatic, resourceful, and scheming man in the game who can rationalize all his crazy behavior and make his followers unconditionally and blindly obey his orders. In addition to playing the role of ruler, he was also a strict father. He had an adolescent son who he wanted to actively train as the leader of the next generation of Yala, inheriting his mantle while also keeping the family's glory. Anton is a very complex and three-dimensional character, and I think Giancarlo has completely brought Anton to life. It is no exaggeration to say that every time I meet Anton, I am holding my breath and super nervous, because his aura is very strong, which makes me deeply attracted.
