Traditional Chinese culture attaches great importance to education, and the understanding of education is also very profound, with five thousand years of experience, five thousand years of methods, five thousand years of wisdom, and five thousand years of effects.
Let's take a look at it, in the "Qunshu Zhizhi Zhi zhi Not to be humble but multi-powerful, for example, the jackal, not to be deceived. "What do you mean?" That is to say, you see that this bow must be adjusted well before it is a powerful bow; the horse must be tamed before it is a good horse, traveling thousands of miles a day; as a "scholar" (a reader), you must first have honest and prudent virtues, and then you can ask him to be versatile, versatile, and intelligent. If a person does not have an honest, cautious morality, but is multi-talented, versatile, multi-skilled, as inaccessible as a jackal, once approached, it will hurt you. What does this mean? It is essential to illustrate one's virtue.
So some people divide talent into four levels:
[1] Virtue is the right thing to do. Our school cultivates talents, just like factories produce products, if a person has virtue and talent, which is what our society urgently needs, we compare him to the real thing.
[2] Virtue and virtue are inferior. If a person has virtue, but his talent is not enough, we can cultivate him, and it can also be used, so as not to cause serious harm to the social state.
[3] Talent and immorality are drugs. A person who has talent, art, but also understands high technology, knows how to hack people's websites, knows what is the effect of putting melamine in milk powder, what is such a person? It's drugs. It will cause serious harm to our social state, and some people say that he is a dangerous goods.
[4] Finally, talentlessness and immorality are waste. There is neither talent nor virtue, this is waste. In fact, people without talent and virtue are less harmful than those who have talent and no morality.
So, after we look at it, we are thinking, what kind of "character" is our current education cultivating? What kind of talent? You see we all say that we are cultivating drugs and dangerous goods, because we focus on people's skills and talents, but we ignore people's moral cultivation.
We are now just over the college entrance examination, everyone is applying for volunteering, many people know, the hottest volunteer, professional, what are the majors? Economy, finance, but also with the "national character", international finance, international accounting, international economy and so on. What does this mean? Illustrates a problem, of course, we have reform and opening up, have an international consciousness, this is very good, we must learn advanced things from abroad. But on the other hand, it also reflects a tendency, that is, the purpose of our current reading is biased, and we no longer read books like the ancients, "reading is determined to be a sage", but "reading is determined to make money". Which major makes more money, everyone will flock to it, and the number of applicants will be relatively large, which shows that the purpose of our reading and the ancients' reading is very different. So we are all engaged in education, and we feel that the responsibility is incomparably great.
How do we see how the ancients understood "education"? What is "education"?
In the Book of Rites, it is said, "He who teaches also grows good and saves his lost." "It is clear that there are two purposes of education, the first is to make man's goodness grow continuously, and the second is to save man's faults. We say that the current ideological and political class should play the role of "cultivating people with virtue", so is "long-term goodness" and making people's goodness grow, is it not Lide? "Save the lost", is it a tree man? So you see that we say that the educational goal of "Li De Shu Ren" and our traditional "long good and save the lost" are completely the same, but the wording is different.
Looking at the word "yu" again, the "Explanation of Words" explains: "The adopted son makes him do good." "You just raise the child, that is not called "education", he must follow the aspect of goodness to grow and develop, this is called "education". Therefore, the education of being a person and the education of character are the foundation and core of education.
When we look at "University", "University" in the four books, the opening paragraph says: "The way of the university is in Mingmingde, in being close to the people, and in stopping at the highest good." "In other words, what is the purpose of our college? Of course, this "university" also has a different interpretation, which is "the study of adults", the learning of adults. It is "in Mingmingde", first open your own Matilda, and then be close to the people, "close to the people" is to help others also open his "Matilda", and then stop at the supreme good, both of which are perfect, this is called "stopping at the supreme good". So realize that he, both of these have reached the level of perfection, and this is what the University teaches us.
So we see, in the eyes of the ancients, education is a process of "returning to Matilda". What is the process of "returning to Matilda"? We are all wise and wise in our nature, just like this light, which is crystal clear and radiant in itself, but this lamp is stained with dirt, dust, and oil, and as a result, the light cannot be emitted. The process of education is that we remove these pollution layer by layer, and finally let the light of its nature shine out, which is the process of education.
So the ancients said: "Reading is aimed at the sages." Many people say that it is enough for me to be a mortal, so why should I be sanctified? For the "sages" are who we are. A "saint or a sage" is an enlightened person, a person who has "attained enlightenment," and a person who "returns to Matilda." We are a confused person, a drunk person, a confused person, so the saint is who we are. Therefore, Xunzi and Mencius said: "Tu's people can be Yu", "everyone can be Yao Shun", and everyone should work hard in the direction of "sages and gentlemen", which is the purpose of our education.
