On March 7, the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra will take the stage with soprano Daniela de Niz on stage at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. Soprano de Niz will present to the concert both the classical Austrian composer Mozart's classic opera aria and the 20th century Broadway classic musical.

In 1938, the Italian conductor Toscanini founded the Lucerne Festival in the Swiss town of Lucerne. Today, the Lucerne Festival has become one of the most high-profile events in the classical music scene. In 1956, conductor Rudolf Baumgartner and violin maestro Wolfgang Schneiderhan co-founded the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra, a string orchestra composed of seventeen string players and a harpsichordist that has gradually become one of the most high-profile chamber orchestras in the world. At the annual Lucerne Festival, the appearance of the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra is warmly welcomed by the festival audience.
On this visit to the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra will take the stage with Australian soprano Daniela de Niz. De Niz entered the world of opera at the age of 18 through the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera, and at the age of 19 played the role of Barbarina in the Metropolitan Opera's opera The Marriage of Figaro. With his outstanding voice and exquisite performances, de Niz was loved by audiences on the world stage, playing many classic opera roles on heavyweight stages such as the Paris State Opera, the Saito Memorial Festival and the Dutch Opera. Not only was she adept at singing soprano roles in mozart's operas of the classical period, but she also had extensive experience in interpreting Italian bel canto operas, while opera arias by Baroque composers such as Handel often appeared as concert repertoire by de Niz.
At the Concert at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Daniela de Niz will present the theme of "From Mozart to Broadway" with the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra, connecting the two artistic genres of classical and twentieth-century popular music with a voice and melody. In the first half of the concert, the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra will open with Mozart's classic String Play in D major, which was created in 1772. Through this fresh style of chamber music works, it is not difficult for the audience to find that although Mozart was only 16 years old at that time, he had already ushered in the first creative climax of his life. The smooth and cheerful string melody is very imprinted by the composer's personal style, and the rich ornamental notes throughout the song create an elegant and interesting atmosphere for the whole work. Soon after, soprano Daniela de Niz will take the stage to sing Mozart's famous arias in two classic operas, Don Juan and Toddy's Kindness. "Ah, escape from the traitors!" And "This ungrateful man betrayed me", two famous arias from Mozart's "Don Juan", both express the female characters' indictments of the play's playboy "Don Juan", with strong emotions, melodic ups and downs, and extremely high requirements for the singer's voice control ability. The aria "I'm leaving, may bring peace" is taken from the opera The Mercy of Toddi. Written in 1791, "I'm Leaving, May Peace" is one of the most famous arias of the play and one of the most popular concert tracks by soprano singers.
In the second half of the concert, the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra will open with Bartók's "String Frolic". In sharp contrast to Mozart's String Frolic in D major in the first half, Bartók's neo-nationalist style is particularly striking. This work of modern style shows that the second half of the concert will belong to the colorful 20th century. 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, and the world is about to embark on a culmination in 2018 in honor of this great musician. In this concert, the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra and singer de Niz also selected a number of classic melodies from musicals composed by Bernstein. De Niz will sing live the classic song "Dream with Me" from the musical Peter Pan, the popular "I Am Beautiful" from "West End Story" and the "Little Heartwarming" from "Wonderful Town". These songs are very similar to the golden age style of American Broadway musicals in the middle of the last century, with a slightly jazzy tune that is relaxed and melodious, and the slightly playful rhythm highlights the female characters in the play's yearning for free life and longing for love. In addition to excerpts from the musicals created by Bernstein, singer de Niz and the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra will also present classic singing segments from musicals such as "Funny Girl", "Flower Drum Drama" and "Painting the Edge" for the audience. Among them, "Flower Drum Drama" is a classic musical drama composed by composer Richard Rogers and playwright Oscar Hamerstein II based on the novel of the same name by Chinese writer Li Jinyang, telling the contradictions and generation gaps of generations in Chinatown, and the classic singing section of the play "Like to be a girl" will be sung in China, and the audience will also feel a kind feeling.
