"The Father of Taiwanese Folk Songs" Hu Defu: Music is a bridge between the two sides of the strait

author:China Youth Network

Xiamen, 17 Jun (China Youth Network) -- On the afternoon of 16 June, the 11th Straits Forum and the 6th Cross-Strait Youth New Media Summit Forum with the theme of "I am with you" opened in Xiamen. Taiwanese Aboriginal singer Hu Defu was invited as the guest of honor and brought a wonderful performance.

Born in Taitung, Taiwan, Hu Defu was one of the pioneers of the Taiwanese folk song movement and the Aboriginal movement. In the 1970s, Hu Defu, together with Yang Xian and Li Shuangze, promoted the "Folk Song Movement", which is known as the entire Chinese pop music enlightenment movement.

Talking about the feeling of being invited to the conference, Hudev said that he is an old man mixed with young people. Since coming to the mainland for the first time 30 years ago, he has traveled to many cities and come into contact with many of the continent's musical peers and young people. Participating in the cross-strait youth new media summit forum made him feel particularly young.

At the "National Style" theatrical performance after the opening ceremony of the forum, Hood brought his original song "The Wind of the Pacific". The song is based on Hoodev's own experience and has won two Golden Melody Awards. As a musician, Hoodfu firmly believes that music is inseparable from each other and has common emotions. He once talked about a song in the book "We Are All Passers-by", called "A Bridge", just as he has always wished: to drive cross-strait communication through his own music and make music a bridge.

In an interview with a reporter from China Youth Network, Hu Dev revealed that he will hold a "Valley Call Again" concert in Beijing on August 2. Although he was nearly seventy years old, he continued to compose and perform. Hu Defu hopes to hold a concert every year in his lifetime, the first of which will be held in Beijing, and is already being organized in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Wuhan, Xi'an and other places. He hopes to enhance cross-strait exchanges through his influence and appeal, and also hopes to spread good musical works and concepts to young people.

In recent years, Hudev has been pleased to find that there are many young people who sincerely like folk music and are willing to listen to folk songs on the spot. For young people, national music may seem distant, but Hudev said that times are changing, and many musicians have added a national component to their works. He believes that young people will create songs that belong to this era and make voices that belong to this era.

For this forum, Hu Defu's greatest expectation is that young people on both sides of the strait can know and understand each other more deeply through exchanges. In his view, cross-strait exchanges have once again confirmed the commonality of culture, and the two sides of the strait are originally of the same root and origin. Hu Defu sighed that today's participation in the cross-strait youth new media summit forum made him feel once again that there are more and more platforms and ways for young people on both sides of the strait to enhance mutual understanding.
