Exhausted to the extreme, his mood hovered between life and death.

His songs have the deepest and gentlest love for the land that gave birth to him, and have a stubborn and indomitable national self-esteem, like the wind of the Pacific Ocean, which has come from ancient times and rushed to the future, endlessly. Since then, his creation has been rejuvenated, and he has also encouraged and supported many ethnic minority singers in Taiwan to compose and sing with their own ethnic music elements.
Hu Defu did not sing folk songs at the beginning, he believes that the degree of "flattery" of his generation exceeds that of today's youth, when all the young people in Taiwan sang English songs, singing Chinese songs will be coaxed off the stage, singing tribal ancient tunes grew up, and when he arrived in Taipei, he also became a member of the stage to sing English songs. While singing in the café, he met Li Shuangze and Yang Xian. They met in music and opened a new page in the history of Taiwanese music together.
One night in 1976, Tamsui College of Arts and Sciences organized a "folk concert". When it was Li Shuangze's turn to play, he took a bottle of Coca-Cola and asked the students in the audience: "We are in the Philippines, drinking Coca-Cola and listening to these songs; in Spain, drinking Coca-Cola, listening to these songs; in the United States, drinking Coca-Cola, listening to these songs." Now, in Taiwan, we still drink Coca-Cola and listen to these songs. Li Shuangze slammed Coca-Cola on the ground: "Do we have our own songs?" ”
This "Coke Bottle Incident", also known as the "Tamkang Incident", became the tipping point of Taiwan's folk song movement.
After that night, three friends worked together to create "their own song". Hu Defu wrote his first song "The Child on the Back of the Cow" and held a solo concert "Beautiful Rice Spike" in 1974; Li Shuangze composed "Heart Song", "I Know", "Red Maocheng", "Old Drummer", "Yugong Moving Mountain", "Beautiful Island", "Young China", etc.; Yang Xian also released "Chinese Modern Folk Songs" and "Our Songs". With the arrival of radio and records, the modern folk song movement of "singing our own songs" has ignited a wave of young people in Taiwan. Western songs are no longer dominant.

At the opening ceremony of the Sixth Cross-Strait Youth New Media Summit Forum, Hu Defu will be invited to perform in the "National Style" literary and artistic performance. Many people questioned why the organizer invited him as a guest, and the calm master showed an arrogant smile.
"I have done a lot of variety shows on the mainland, and Modern Sky has invited me to participate in music festivals many times," Hudev said, "I feel like I am a young person as soon as I look up, and I live among young people." Especially on the festival scene, they would sing with me, and in the younger voice, I became younger. ”
In fact, not only to participate in various activities, Hu Defu will also open columns on platforms such as Zhihu, Dragonfly, Douban and other platforms to talk and communicate with young people, simply not too active. Whether he first started the folk song movement and later shouted for the rights of taiwan's ethnic minorities, now he wants to do his best for the exchange of young people on both sides of the strait and the dissemination of folk songs.
"Li Shuangze has always wanted to compose a song "A Bridge," Hu Defu said, "on that bridge, people on both sides of the strait passed through, bustling, greeting each other, not passing by, nor looking at each other coldly." Music, not only music, literature, poetry, can become parts of this bridge, and young people on both sides of the strait will find that we share a common culture, release the heart, and be intimate. ”
