Chengdu Wing Dream is the protagonist we want to talk about today, this e-sports training institution located in the High-tech West District Guoteng Software Park is behind the establishment of the "e-sports persuasion" business.
Taking this opportunity, we chatted with Hou Xu, the founder of Chengdu Yizhimeng E-sports Education, about their ideas about the e-sports business, and how he looks at and understands today's e-sports and e-sports education industry.
First there's education, then there's esports
Mr. Hou is the founder of Yizhimeng E-sports Education, and also the Secretary-General of Chengdu E-sports Industry Association, who has been responsible for projects such as CEG and Chengdu Municipal Games, and has served as an e-sports lecturer at Sichuan Film and Television Academy for 2 years.
Recently, Mr. Hou's daily schedule has been very full, and he has received a large number of consultation calls from parents every day. Before the teahouse interview, there were more than dozens of media that found Mr. Hou to interview, including traditional media for the general public such as CCTV News, People's Daily, and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, as well as some vertical self-media in the game and e-sports industries.
"Our own purpose is not actually to dissuade, but to send excellent seedlings for professional e-sports clubs and tap more e-sports talents," Mr. Hou made clear to us at the beginning of the interview.
Founded in April 2017, Wing Dream E-sports Educational Institution is essentially still an educational institution in Mr. Hou's view, and the original intention of other education and training institutions is the same. Schools, education and training institutions in addition to teaching and educating people, but also to cultivate students' correct values and outlook on life; and for Wing Dream E-sports, their core purpose is also to establish a correct view of games and e-sports for children through e-sports training, so that they understand that playing e-sports and being a professional player and playing games well have an essential difference, which is one of the core values of Wing Dream.
Wing Dream's coaches basically have a pre-professional background and have sufficient professional field experience, and the coaches themselves must accept Wing Dream's concept of e-sports education before they can officially enter the workforce. In this context, the overall teaching atmosphere of Wing Dream is quite strict, which is also a responsible attitude for parents and students.
"There is a certain misunderstanding of us from the outside world, and e-sports persuasion itself is not our main business", Mr. Hou believes that the core reason for this misunderstanding is that parents generally have idealized thinking about the results.
The road of competitive sports itself is very cruel, about 100 people have the talent and ability to embark on the career path of only about less than 5%, because this objective fact itself exists, so for students the overall "dissuasion rate" is actually quite normal, but for wing dream, there is another layer of purpose in it.
In Mr. Hou's view, many parents send their children to their own purposes are too idealistic, such as letting the children train for 2-3 months, the child can return to school or fall in love with learning again, and for e-sports educational institutions, many parents have expected that they have gone beyond their control.
In contrast, during the training process, they will use games to deeply understand where a child's real problems are. If the child really has the talent of e-sports, then Wing Dream will be happy to recommend it to the youth training camp of professional e-sports clubs to accept higher-level, more professional trials; conversely, if there is no talent, then Wing Dream will also try to let students embark on the "main business" that they should go, which is not necessarily a school, but also somewhere else.
In fact, in the cases that Mr. Hou has contacted, less than 30% of them have been sent because of their addiction to games, and the remaining more are actually from family, school, and even social pressure.
Through the way of play, fully communicate with children in this process, find out the problem, which is what Wing Dream can do for most cases, and the real sense of "persuasion" requires the joint efforts of institutions, parents, schools and other parties.
The market is chaotic and mixed
In the esports education circle, at least more than 50% of institutions are currently not up to standard, Mr. Hou felt so, and shared with us a story of his own experience.
After being reported by CCTV, People's Daily, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and other media, the fame of the dream of the wing, which is not large in itself, suddenly increased in the circle, in addition to a large number of parents calling over for consultation, many "peers" also hope to rub this heat to accumulate wealth.
There are peers who do "e-sports education" and some so-called institutions of the nature of adolescent behavior correction, but the needs are basically the same, as long as Wing Dream introduces student resources to them to go to class, it will give Wing Dream a large percentage.
"The offer opposite was crisp. We only charge 30,000 a semester, how much Wing Dream reports to parents is your business, you report 100,000 and we don't care, as long as the students are sent to me here, the rest of the money is yours", in Mr. Hou's view, if he wants to take advantage of this wave of wealth, he will not raise his hand, but he himself is very firmly refused.
Mr. Hou believes that in addition to adhering to the moral bottom line, most of these so-called educational institutions are illegal, because many of them are under the slogan of "achieving complete correction in the short term". Mr. Hou is well aware that it is very difficult to correct a student's personality or certain habits in a short period of time.
For some educational institutions with e-sports signs, it is generally to fool parents into it first, and then give a promise, if the child does not have the talent to become an e-sports player, then it can also guide the development of coaches, team leaders, referees and even game anchors. But at the end of the semester, the school prevaricated parents for various reasons, such as this major is still a little worse, and that major is still a little worse than consolidation, so that parents can continue to pay money.
In the end, the students who come out of these esports educational institutions have basically achieved nothing. Professional e-sports clubs and professional e-sports broadcasting agencies are quite high standards and lack competitiveness.

The second category is some of the "Internet addiction" institutions with a bad reputation, and the "rapid effect" they promise can of course be done, but more rely on violence and coercive means, treating the symptoms rather than the root causes, and will cause great harm to the physical and mental health of children.
The third category is the e-sports majors offered by some schools and training institutions. Generally students go in to study for 3-5 years, because there is no mature teaching program and teacher resources, so basically can not learn anything real, on the contrary, because of the lack of management and professional guidance will only waste the youth of students.
When it is time to graduate, the school can not issue the corresponding professional diploma, can only some network college diplomas or adult self-examination diplomas to students, you take these diplomas to participate in the e-sports industry, basically no one wants.
In addition to the above three categories, there are also some psychological counseling agencies that are also cheating money through games or e-sports. Mr. Hou has been exposed to a real case, there is a child who was judged to be depressed by a psychological counseling agency before coming to them, and it took more than 500,000 yuan to treat it before and after, and when Yi zhimeng contacted the child, he found that it was not a problem of depression at all, or because the child chose not to communicate with the parents because the parents did not understand their hobbies.
For this phenomenon, Teacher Hou believes that this is a drawback brought about by the rapid development of the market. The e-sports industry as a whole is still relatively young, but it is still hoped that the state can come forward to rectify the current market. First revoke the business licenses of those harmful institutions, and then set up a norm for e-sports education as a whole, so that educational institutions on the market must meet a certain standard to enroll and teach, and improve the quality of teaching, which is always the first.
"Well done. At the very least, when a parent chooses an esports educational institution, he can tell which ones are really good and really effective for their children."
You have to go to your heart
"There is a child, 22 years old, even I was deceived by him, he deceived everyone", at the end of the interview, Teacher Hou told the tea house that he had the most impressive case of a student he had contact with, and we will refer to this student as Xiao A.
Xiao A was found by The teacher and parents of Wing Zhi Meng in an Internet café in Chongqing, and before finding him, Xiao A had been away from home for a long time. According to the information informed by the parents, this is not the first time that Xiao A has run away from home.
The teachers and parents did a good job of Xiao A's behavior that may show extreme emotions and even fierce resistance, but on the way back to Chengdu, Xiao A has been smiling and communicating with teachers and parents, and has also expressed complete obedience to the arrangements for going to Wing Dream for training next, which makes Mr. Hou feel very surprised.
After coming to Wing Dream, Xiao A still shows a positive and sunny state in front of the teacher, and in the eyes of the teachers, Xiao A's state may not need to be "dissuaded" and can return to school and family in advance. Mr. Hou thought so, until the teacher of Yi Zhimeng told Mr. Hou some truth.
Xiao A has a dual personality, and when facing living people, he will show the side of catering to their ideals. After a period of time, the nature of the little a will be exposed. Irritable, impulsive, and mentally distorted, the students who had played well with him at the beginning gradually alienated him, and the teachers could not speak as they watched the little a in the training room yell at the screen with their vicious faces.
Later, Teacher Hou learned about Xiao A's past from his parents. Before the age of 17, Xiao A's experience is similar to that of "other people's children", which is top-notch in all aspects, a well-behaved child around the parents, a good student in the eyes of the teacher, and a bully in the mouth of the classmates. But at the age of 17, Xiao A encountered a bottleneck in learning, which is actually a very normal thing, as long as parents and society are more enlightened, it is not very difficult to break through the bottleneck.
But Little A sinks down and starts using games to anesthetize himself, and he starts trying to run away from home. The parents were busy with work at first and acquiesced to Xiao A's behavior, until Xiao A ran away from home more and more frequently, the parents realized the problem, but they made a serious mistake.
Parents sent Xiao A to a semi-military-managed education school, which you can simply understand as the "xx academy" that has been on the hot search before. Xiao A instantly understood his situation, and some beliefs and ideas began to collapse during this period.
He began to "put on the mask". In less than 3 weeks, Xiao A was sent home by the school because he was "too good". A day later, at 2.30 a.m., Xiao A stole his parents' passbook and money and left Chengdu for Mianyang, which had the opening scene.
When recalling this story, Teacher Hou lamented to us that sometimes many children who are mistaken for Internet addiction and addiction to games really have nothing to do with games and e-sports themselves, and what they lack is a care and some courage to face reality.
The bell must also be tied to the ringer. Find the real cause, in order to prescribe the right medicine, Teacher Hou feels that e-sports education and education are essentially no different, only to find out what the children are thinking, and then talk about the next things.
At present, because of the relationship between the epidemic, the enrollment of Wing Dream has been shelved for a whole year, but because of the sudden popularity of "e-sports persuasion", the overall control of the domestic epidemic, and the follow-up enrollment of Wing Dream currently looks very impressive.
