On Melbourne's busiest rail line, commuters' delays will be alleviated, and additional train services will start a year earlier than originally planned.
The Herald Sun reported on the 4th that the long-awaited second railway between Cranbourne and Dandenong will be completed a year ahead of schedule, departing every 10 minutes during the morning rush hour. Starting early next year, the new 8-kilometer-long railway will be put into operation alongside the new merenda Park station, which was originally scheduled to be completed in 2023.
More trains will depart from Cranbourne, Lynbrook and Merinda Park stations during the morning rush hour, and additional train services will be available for commuters heading home. This will mean that trains that previously had their terminal at Dandenong will now arrive at Cranbourne, which is expected to reduce train cancellations and delays.
In response, Victorian Governor Daniel Andrews said: "We are committed to spending billions of dollars on Cranbourne line upgrades, more trains and more frequent departures, which is exactly what we are doing. (Meta Pure Spirit Compilation)
