From the south bank of the Jiaojiang River, follow the Jiaojiang Bridge to the north. The sun is sunny, the sea and the sky are colorful, looking for an ancient town to wander through time, Zhang'an is a good choice.

Zhang'an, located on the north bank of the Jiaojiang River, has a long history. During the Western Han Dynasty, Huipu County was first built, renamed Zhang'an during the Eastern Han Dynasty, Linhai County during the Three Kingdoms period, and later as a county seat, which was once the political, economic and cultural center of the southeast coast of Zhejiang in history, and was a prosperous scene.

The driving destination is located in this "thousand-year-old county rule": Huipu Village. It is the sixth batch of provincial-level historical and cultural ancient village protection and utilization key villages, which have prospered due to political economy and declined because of their transfer.

Time back to 2003. At that time, Huipu was like a backward small village: the roads were narrow and muddy, the houses were in disrepair; the peasants had no security, and the problems of idle village collective land were also quite prominent.

How can we change the status quo? Suddenly, it became a problem for the whole village.

To develop, solving the housing problem is the first step. The two village committees learned from each other and, on the advice of the planning department, decided to rebuild the community with a unified style. This is the "first time" in Jiaobei and even in the whole Jiaojiang River. "They all say we're bold, but someone has to be the first to eat crab!" At that time, Wang Yifu, who was the secretary of the village party branch, made up his mind.

Three years later, a new residential area with a total area of 140,000 square meters and a total of 350 houses, the Gundo Community, was erected. The unprecedented planning and uncluttered and generous appearance is eye-catching.

The villagers with conditions in the village and most of the villagers in Zhang'an Old Street took the lead in moving in, and the "good day" began. Measures such as renting out street shops and developing village land to build factories have brought an average annual income of millions of yuan to the whole village.

Huipu Village fought a beautiful battle, but also brought tangible benefits to the villagers. In 2020, the per capita disposable income of villagers was 43,827 yuan, higher than the average level of Jiaojiang District.

The old people in the village are also more comfortable. In order to let the people in the village have a good time, the men in the village who are 60 years old and the women in the village are 55 years old can receive a subsidy of 180 yuan per month.

The purse was bulging, and Huipu Village focused his eyes on feelings.

In the memory of the locals, the quaint Zhang'an Old Street condenses the childhood of many people. It is about 660 meters long and extends from east to west, with Huajing Village on the east side of the bridge and Huipu Village on the west side of the bridge. On the stone paved path, more than three hundred houses stand,

During the Qing Dynasty, Western medicine, pawnshops, brewing, dyeing workshops, copper tin, vegetables, aquatic products, rice shops, inns and other industries were readily available here; in the early years, the scene of vendors shouting and selling was very lively; but now it can only vaguely identify the old plaques, signboards and shops that have faded out of ink.

Those who bought a house don't live here, there is another place to live outside to work, and in this way, the old street gradually declines..." It disappears without repairing it!" Wang Yifu spoke the voice of Zhang Anren.

How to reproduce the charm of "thousand-year-old county"? Huipu Village organically combines the village improvement construction with the "one river and two banks" strategy and the development of Jiaobei New Area, and according to the principle of "repairing the old as old", in 2019, the financial investment of 11.5 million yuan was first repaired on the Huipu section of the core block of Zhang'an Ancient Street.

126 important ancient buildings and wooden houses, one by one repaired; 24 buildings that clashed with historical style, demolished or remodeled; the wires pulled between the houses were reorganized... After more than a year, the old street has returned to its former style.

Adding vitality is the next step. Combined with various traditional shops and workshops on both sides of the old street, the local government actively introduces intangible cultural heritage from all over Taizhou to continue the vitality of the old street.

This wave of initiatives has ushered in the favor of a group of old craftsmen. Four generations of the 78-year-old Ye Zailei family have made a living in Tin Making in Laojie, telling the story of traditional skills; 69-year-old Zheng Mihua, using more than 20 processes to weave handicrafts such as "Golden Rooster Yuanbao" with bamboo and rattan, conveys the value of ingenuity...

For them, the old street that retains the lost years is the root of survival and the source of intangible cultural heritage.

With traditions in mind, there are also the younger generation. Yang Jibing, 41 years old this year, learned paper-cutting with his grandmother since he was a child. Today, he is the inheritor of Taizhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Zhang'an paper-cutting, but also a "magician", a pair of scissors will zhang'an folk customs, ancient county customs and other changes into paper art.

After establishing a studio in Gujie, Yang Jibing often came to this paper-cutting. One is that the environment is clean and suitable for creation; the other is to allow more people to touch the traditional culture of Taizhou and feel the charm of intangible cultural heritage. "During the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and other holidays, we will also open online live broadcasts, promote old streets online and offline, and do what we can for local development."

Up to now, Laojie has invited more than 10 non-hereditary inheritors such as paper-cutting, bamboo weaving, wood carving, brick carving, etc. to settle in.

The footsteps of the common wealth in Huipu Village are far more than that. In recent stages, the village has set up a professional operation team to explore the development of online intangible cultural heritage VR displays, miniature museums and other forms, turning the advantages of cultural brands into advantages of industrial development. It is reported that this year's "May Day" "Cultural Roots-Seeking, Art Heart to the Party" Literary and Art Week activities, an average of more than 10,000 tourists per day.

Looking at Zhejiang, the horn of the revival of the thousand-year-old city has been sounded, and people are exploring the road of common prosperity of new urbanization through cultural excavation, cultural relics protection, non-genetic inheritance and other ways.

In the future, we will wait and see.

Experts say

Zhou Caiyong, head of the Rural Social Undertakings Development Division of the Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau

With the inclusive development of cultural diversity, China's historic ancient towns, as a unique tourism resource, are now more and more favored by tourists and have become one of the hot spots for tourism development in various places.

From the decadent thousand-year history to the revitalization of the present, what is the secret of the success of Huipu Village?

Paying attention to accurate positioning is the first step. In promoting the protection and utilization of historical and cultural ancient villages, Huipu Village organically combines the village improvement construction with the strategy of "one river and two banks" and the development of Jiaobei New Area, and carries out scientific planning in the context of the overall development of the whole district, and clarifies the development positioning of Taizhou cultural "root-seeking place", Taizhou City's back garden and citizens' leisure land development.

On this basis, in accordance with the principle of "repairing the old as old", the village has better reproduced the historical original appearance of "thousand-year-old county governance", and has aroused the vitality of the development of the ancient village by implanting local wood carvings, clay sculptures, bamboo weaving and other intangible cultural heritage formats in Zhang'an.

In addition, Huipu Village has also firmly established the concept of "operating a village", paid attention to the combination of construction and utilization, and timely transformed the construction results of ancient villages into economic development projects, effectively driving the common prosperity of villagers.
