Elven mortals sing dreamy arias together

On the evening of November 10, the National Centre for the Performing Arts produced Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" on the stage of the Beijing Comedy Theatre. In order to pay tribute to the great theatrical giant on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, the National Centre for the Performing Arts invited the Royal Shakespeare Company co-director Chris White to direct this year to produce and launch the grand theatre's first Shakespeare play " A Midsummer Night's Dream" to direct. The play was performed by the National Centre for the Performing Arts drama cast and premiered on July 20 this year. The second round of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is the first time that the play has stepped out of the National Centre for the Performing Arts and appeared at the Beijing Comedy Theater and debuted at the 2016 Beijing Comedy Arts Festival.

That night, in the relaxed and bright rhythm, in the flexible and flowing style, the play used the classic Shakespearean way to tell the complex story of the fairy king, the fairy queen, the elf and the mortal world, and the plot of the yin and yang was matched with the structure of the play, so that the audience seemed to fall into a poetic fairy tale dream and experienced a great joy in love. The solemn and solemn city of Athens, with strict institutions; romantic and dreamy magical forest, mysterious silence. The human world and wonderland are intertwined, time and space are intertwined, and in the drama "A Midsummer Night's Dream", a tragic and joyful, strange and magical love chase, a fascinating and philosophical love story occurs magically. The entanglement of the fairy king, the fairy queen, the elf and the mortal world is unfolded one by one, and in the chaotic changes, their story begins at the night of the moon and ends at dawn; it begins with elopement, ends at consummation, and finally a lover finally becomes a family member, and the immortals are reconciled as before.

On the stage of the Beijing Comedy Theatre, the ingenious set of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" kicked off again. The 70 wooden sticks are simplified and abstractly created two different time and space: the orderly city of Athens, where the wooden sticks are placed in an orderly manner; the mysterious and fantastic magical forest, wooden sticks, crescent-shaped platforms, and water-like stages appear natural and random. The stage design is ingenious in simplicity, and all the elements on the stage are integrated with the actors' performances without a trace, avoiding the "hustle and bustle" of visual design, and highlighting the creative concept with performance as the core. The actors' just right line interpretation and exquisite body language will attract the audience's laughter from time to time. The actors of the National Centre for the Performing Arts drama team once again brought out the charm of Shakespeare's comedy through superb stage performances.
