Latest poll: Nearly 50% of South Koreans oppose the government's legislation banning dog meat

According to South Korean media reports, a survey released by the South Korean polling agency Realmeter on the 3rd showed that nearly 50% of the South Korean people opposed the government's legislation to ban dog meat.

According to reports, RealMeter conducted a relevant survey of 500 adults in South Korea on the 2nd of this month. The results showed that 48.9% of the respondents opposed the government's legislation to ban the consumption of dog meat, 38.6% agreed, and 12.6% had reservations.

In terms of gender, the proportion of male opposition is higher, at 57.1%. The proportion of women in favour and opposition was 40.9 per cent. By age group, respondents aged 18 to 29 were more disapproving, at 60.9%, much higher than the 27 percent approval rate. Respondents in their 50s and over 70s were more likely to answer yes.

On September 27, South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a regular meeting with Prime Minister Kim Fu-chim and asked the authorities to discuss a plan to ban dog meat.

According to Agence France-Presse, about 1 million dogs in South Korea are on the plate every year. In recent years, with the increasing number of pet owners in South Korea and the rise of animal protection awareness, the number of people eating dog meat in South Korea is decreasing.
