On April 17, 2020, two local forest police officers came to the Malutang Management and Conservation Center in Shangri-La City and brought four birds with them.
After verification, it is a common species in the Haba Snow Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve, and the wedge-tailed green dove is a national second-level protected animal. The forest public security responded that these four wedge-tailed green doves were kept in the homes of local residents without authorization, and after the forest public security investigation and processing, the 4 wedge-tailed green doves are now confiscated. Due to the high living environment needs of the wedge-tailed green dove, it is not suitable to live in a relatively cold area, coupled with the bumps in the road, it is difficult to bring to Shangri-La, so it is stored in our institute, and after the relevant law enforcement procedures, it will be released to nature. During the storage period, our staff dutifully raised the wedge-tailed green dove, consulted relevant materials, understood the living habits, biological characteristics and ecosystem ownership of the wedge-tailed green dove and other related issues, and once again enriched the relevant knowledge of species in the Haba Snow Mountain Reserve.
On May 13, the director of the Institute of Ecology and Lihua, together with the local forest police, released four wedge-tailed green doves within the Haba Snow Mountain Conservation Area, and after observing for a period of time, confirmed that the wedge-tailed green doves could indeed survive in the wild, the release tour was completed.
The Malutang Management and Conservation Institute of the Haba Snow Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve Management and Conservation Bureau has always been committed to the protection of the ecological environment and biodiversity in and around the Haba Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, and through this release and repatriation activity, lessons learned and further completed relevant professional knowledge. At the same time, it also calls on the broad masses of the people to be in awe, to fear laws and regulations, to respect nature, and to protect nature.
