According to the data of Lighthouse Professional Edition, the box office in February 2021 totaled 12.267 billion, creating a new record for the single-month box office of the Chinese film market and refreshing the single-month box office record of the global single-market.
The top three films that contributed to the 12.2 billion yuan box office were "Hello, Li Huanying", which has a box office of 4.823 billion yuan, "Detective Chinatown 3" with a box office of 4.312 billion yuan, and "Assassination of a Novelist" with a box office of more than 895 million yuan.
Excluding the special 2020, the box office of the Chinese film market in February of the calendar year is as follows: 11.163 billion yuan in 2019, 10.147 billion yuan in 2018, and 6.17 billion yuan in 2017. The box office in February 2021 increased by 270% month-on-month, much higher than the box office in January (3.329 billion yuan).
In February this year, the cumulative number of moviegoers reached 266 million, the number of shows was 10.3610 million, and the average ticket price was 46 yuan. In February 2019, the number of moviegoers was 262 million, the number of shows was 10.5137 million, and the average ticket price was 42.5 yuan.
This may mean that the film market is recovering. Not long ago, the strongest Spring Festival slot in history finally ended with a box office of 7.8 billion yuan. In 2021, the box office of the Chinese film market will exceed 10 billion yuan, which is also 230 days earlier than in 2020.
Huaan Securities pointed out in the research report released on February 22 that in addition to the direct contribution of performance in this year's Spring Festival file, the biggest value lies in telling the market from the two aspects of policy and consumer psychology that the impact of the epidemic has completely disappeared. If the previous policy was to oscillate in the fear of repeated epidemics and the promotion of film recovery, it is now relatively clear that it fully supports the recovery of theaters. The second is that consumers' psychological concerns have been basically lifted. Huaan Securities believes that both external epidemic control and internal psychological effects have proved that the impact of the epidemic on the film industry has basically disappeared.
