Antonio Conte 'would love' to be Manchester United manager but 'can't wait'

Antonio Conte reportedly told his friend that he "would love" to become Manchester United manager but "can't wait".

The Italian will be Tottenham's new manager after sacking San Espirito on Monday, but he is very interested in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's position.

Athletic claims Conte "told friends in recent weeks that he would love to be number one on the coaching bench at Old Trafford".

But despite reports to the contrary, just two weeks ago, Conte told his assistants that they had no connection to United.

United's board of directors has deemed the 52-year-old "too confrontational to the acquiescence structure within the club".

Conte will replace Old Trafford with camping at Tottenham Hotspur and United want to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Conte, an important factor for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Conte is said to have thought he couldn't wait for United's position because the boss had confidence in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The former Chelsea boss is expected to train for his first time at Tottenham on Tuesday and against ArnhemVites on Thursday.

Despite Conte's excellent performance, Carragher believes Conte needs time to reverse Tottenham's decline.

"From a selfish point of view, I hope Conte can return to the Premier League," Carragher added.

"I think he's showing up for the first time and his character and personality are outstanding. I'd love to see him back in the Premier League, so I hope he can come back to the Premier League.

"I think it takes more than 18 months for a manager to turn The tide of Thettenham Hotspur.

"As much as I admire Conte, he has had successes at Chelsea and every club he has played for, I think it will be difficult to replicate his success in 18 months.

"I think it's probably going to be another 18 months before He gets Tottenham back to pochettino's side, when you think they have a chance to win trophies and push people year after year to fight for titles and Champions Leagues.

"I think there's still a lot of work to be done. Do I think Conte can turn things around in 18 months? I think it's hard even for someone of his personality. ”
