At the end of August this year, when the law enforcement personnel of the Putuoshan Branch of the Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau carried out the epidemic prevention and control inspection of the catering unit, they found that there were three wild animals suspected of Chinese horseshoe crabs in a restaurant in Zhujiajian, and immediately notified the public security organs to assist in the investigation.
After identification, the name of the horseshoe crab is Chinese horseshoe, the body consists of three parts: cephalothorax, abdomen and tail, the cephalothorax and abdomen are covered with curved carapace, the appearance is scoop-shaped, of which the cephalothorax and the carapace of the abdomen can be appropriately moved. The cephalothorax has 6 pairs of large appendages on the ventral surface and around the mouth, all of which are chelated at the ends. The Chinese horseshoe crab belongs to the arthropod phylum, limb mouth, swordtail order, horseshoe family, belongs to China's national second-level protected animals.
According to article 341 of the Criminal Law, whoever illegally hunts or kills rare or endangered wild animals under key national protection, or illegally acquires, transports, or sells rare or endangered wild animals under key national protection and their products, is suspected of endangering precious or endangered wild animals.
To this end, the district people's procuratorate and relevant units have taken the confiscated Chinese horseshoe crab to the Zhujiajian sea area for release in accordance with the law, and the case is currently being further handled.
