Blue sea and blue sky birds chirp to themselves

【First-line narration】

Narrator: Hou Yuansheng, chief of the information and publicity section of the Qinghai Lake National Nature Reserve Management Bureau

In 1993, I came to Qinghai Lake National Nature Reserve to work for 28 years. More than a decade ago, Qinghai Lake once fell into the dilemma of shrinking lake surface and degradation of grassland. In recent years, the ecological protection project of the Qinghai Lake Basin has been effectively implemented, and the lake and mountains with vast sky, clear water, abundant grass and birds have returned.

There are two main tasks in my work in the protected area, one is information construction, and the other is ecological science popularization.

Does the protection of Qinghai Lake still need informatization? Yes, it is necessary. If you want to live in harmony with nature, you must have a full grasp of the information about the animals and plants that live here. In order to do a good job in this work, we usually obtain information about birds and vegetation through satellite trackers, infrared cameras, etc., and then analyze and sort out relevant data as a reference basis for identifying species and studying the behavior of birds such as migratory birds. At the end of each year, we also write an annual monitoring report to provide data support for nature conservation projects.

It is also an important task for me to go to the grass-roots frontline such as counties, townships, miners' enterprises, and primary and secondary schools to do science popularization education. During the visit, we learned that even the natives around Qinghai Lake often have a half-understanding of what animals and plants are in the surrounding areas and how to protect the ecological environment. In fact, the ecology of Qinghai Lake is good or bad, and the surrounding communities, townships and towns of life and production are inseparable, only let the villagers understand from the bottom of their hearts, pay attention to, they can protect the ecological environment like protecting their own children.

Once, I came to a school class and told students about the flower habit of "Artemisia maxian". It grows strangely, with long flower buds growing in clusters. The children understood as soon as they saw the picture and said, "It's a 'long-nosed flower'!" I've seen it on the prairie. "Local villagers know that as long as this flower blooms vigorously, there must be abundant rainfall in the coming year, which is related to the wet habit of Artemisia maxian. Between the accumulated wisdom of the fellow villagers and the laws of nature, there is a wonderful echo.

We have also compiled popular science books such as "Water Birds of Qinghai Lake" and "The Story of Spotted Geese", filmed and produced more than a dozen short films introducing rare species in Qinghai Lake, spreading the beauty of Qinghai Lake to thousands of households, so that people living here and tourists who stop to play can like it in their hearts, protect it, and jointly build a solid ecological barrier for it.

Today's Qinghai Lake is as clear and transparent as the eyes of the plateau, the water level has risen, the climate has become humid, the birds are gentle, the grass is green, and the green water and green mountains have a more pleasing brilliance.
