author:Reading and contemplation

On April 8, Liu Zhiqin, a researcher at the Institute of Modern History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, died of illness. Although the oral history of Li Shenzhi, in which she participated, has formed hundreds of thousands of words, it has not yet been published.

Recently, the book "Interview with Zeng Yanxiu", a famous essayist (pen name Yan Xiu) and former president of the People's Publishing House, was published by the People's Literature Publishing House. It is reported that the part of the book that writes Hu Qiaomu has been somewhat deleted.

He graduated from the History Department of Fudan University in 1960 and is a classmate of the famous historian Mr. Zhu Weizheng. Liu Zhiqin

Teacher Liu Zhiqin and I know each other well, and as a senior scholar, she cares for me as a junior. Four years ago, I met her at an academic conference, introduced myself to her, and asked her to do an interview on the Cultural Revolution. She happily agreed, and we also added WeChat friends. Later, I went to the Institute of Modern History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and did an interview with her for about two hours, but the manuscript was not sent out. On WeChat, I interact with her from time to time, and she not only encourages my writing, but also cares about my life. Once I mentioned in the circle of friends that my parents have cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, she immediately introduced me to the effectiveness of olive oil. In addition to my admiration, my heart is a little warmer.

Because of the coronavirus, I returned to my hometown of Hubei Yunmeng on January 20 and stayed so far. It wasn't until I saw the articles of Ding Dong and Xing Xiaoqun on April 9 that I learned that she had died. It turned out that Teacher Liu Zhiqin, together with Wang Xuetai and Wang Yi, researchers of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, made an oral history of Mr. Li Shenzhi, former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (who was Zhou Enlai's diplomatic secretary).

Mr. Zeng Yanxiu (1919-2015), a native of Yibin, Sichuan, joined the revolution in his early years, and went south to Guangzhou in the autumn of 1949 as deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the South China Branch of the CPC Central Committee, and participated in the founding of Nanfang Daily, and successively served as the editor-in-chief of Nanfang Daily, the president of Guangdong People's Publishing House, and the director of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. In 1954, he was transferred to Beijing and served as vice president and deputy editor-in-chief of the People's Publishing House. In 1957, it was misclassified as rightist. In the summer of 1960, he was appointed as the editor of cihai editor of the Shanghai Zhonghua Bookstore. He was persecuted during the Cultural Revolution. In the summer of 1978, he was transferred to Beijing and served as a member of the preparatory group of the Encyclopedia publishing house of China, and since September 1979, he has served as the chief editor and president of the People's Publishing House. He retired in 1983. In addition to public office, he is a famous essayist, pen name Yan Xiu, began to publish works in 1941, the author of "Yan Xiu Essay Selection", "Trial of Dry Miscellaneous Talks", "Morning Glory Flower Vine", "A Bright Lamp and Half a Million Bunkers", "Half a Glass of Water Collection", "Heaven's Past Sketch", "On Opening Your Eyes to see the world", "Six Memories of Ordinary Life", etc. "Morning Glory Flower Vine" won the National Honorary Award for Excellent Prose Essays from 1995 to 1996; edited "Chinese New Literature and Art Department Essay Volume", "Contemporary Essay Selection" and so on.

Zeng Yanxiu

The title of the overseas edition of "Interview with Zeng Yanxiu" is "Wei Jue Is Not a Whole Person in This Life". I read this sentence in his "Six Records of Ordinary Life" from his poem "Ninety Self-Encouragement": "In the middle of the night, I once asked if I was a whole person in this life." The "Six Records of Pingsheng" also mentioned that in 1957, "anti-rightism", because the indicator was still one, Mr. Zeng Yanxiu, who was the leader of the People's Publishing House, put himself in it, and was later expelled from the party and sent to Shanghai to work, and his wife and daughter were separated. ...... If it weren't for my 'right' before opposing the right... Then, I want to bring the revolutionary ancestors Xie hegeng ... These comrades have become 'rightists', but I really don't know what kind of situation will arise... As a person in charge, in 1957, he was able to avoid beating others as 'rightists', which is not a great blessing. Between 'hitting' and 'being beaten', inadvertently getting the latter, is this not a great blessing? ”

Upholding conscience and morality, and being willing to bear the price of this, Mr. Tsang Yanxiu's personal character is indeed admirable.

Li Shenzhi

Mr. Li Shenzhi died in 2003, and before his death, I had a relationship with him. At that time, Beijing Sanlian Bookstore held an event, Mr. Li Shenzhi participated, and senior editor Xu Yinong talked with him very happily. I met Mr. Li Shenzhi's daughter Li Yibai, but she passed away on March 13, 2018. Wang Xuetai, Liu Zhiqin, Wang Yi three scholars I know, Mr. Wang Xuetai died on January 12, 2018, and now Teacher Liu Zhiqin has also passed away, only the youngest researcher wang Yi (born in 1954) of the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences is still alive, I only hope that Mr. Li Shenzhi's oral history can be published as soon as possible.
