Introduction
Ma Zhiyuan (c. 1251– after 1321), known as Dongli, was a native of Dadu (present-day Beijing). In his youth, he had great ambitions, but his career was uncertain, and his political ambitions were never realized. He was dissatisfied with the current politics and lived in seclusion in the countryside. Ma Zhiyuan once joined the Yuan Zhen Book Club with Li Shizhong, Hua Lilang, Red Character Li Er and other famous artists. Among the yuan dynasty prose writers, Ma Zhiyuan has the largest number of scattered songs and the most widely circulated, and there are 15 kinds of miscellaneous dramas written by him, 115 scattered songs, 27 sets of songs, and an edition of "Dongli Lefu". Together with Zheng Guangzu, Bai Pu, and Guan Hanqing, he was known as the "Four Greats of Yuanqu", and later generations also called them "Qu Zhuangyuan" and "Horse Immortals". The Taihe Zhengyin Spectrum states that "ma dong hedge words, such as chaoyang singing phoenix". Its small order "Tianjing Sha Qiusi" is known as the "ancestor of autumn thought".
