With the new round of organizational upgrading of ByteDance, Liang Rubo has officially taken over as CEO of ByteDance and is fully responsible for the overall development of the company. On November 2, Liang Rubo released a full-staff email announcing organizational adjustments, implementing business line BU (business unit), and establishing six business segments: Douyin, Vigorous Education, Feishu, Volcano Engine, Asahi Lightyear and TikTok. The heads of relevant business sectors all reported to Liang Rubo.
This is the company's latest organizational adjustment, in line with the principle of "closely coordinated business and team merger into business segments, and a common middle office to develop into a service business for the enterprise", aiming to cope with the challenges of business complexity and team size.
In May this year, Zhang Yiming wrote an internal letter that he and Liang Rubo would complete the transition of byteDance's CEO responsibilities by the end of 2021. This organizational adjustment means that the handover has been completed as scheduled. According to public data, ByteDance employs more than 110,000 people worldwide and covers more than 150 countries and regions. The latest organizational changes are based on business needs, "to be mission-driven, always entrepreneurial, keep the organization flexible and efficient, and inspire creativity," the email said.
It is understood that ByteDance will merge today's headlines, watermelon video, search, encyclopedia and domestic vertical service businesses into Douyin. This segment is responsible for the overall development of the domestic information and services business.
During the same period, some functions of the company's employee development department were transformed into vocational education and merged into the vigorous education sector. This section is committed to establishing a lifelong education service system, covering smart learning, adult education, smart hardware, campus cooperation and other fields. Feishu, EE (Enterprise Efficiency Department) and EA (Enterprise Application Department) merged into the Feishu section, focusing on providing enterprise collaboration and management services.
In addition, the Volcano Engine segment focuses on building an enterprise-level technology service cloud platform. The Asahi Lightyear section is responsible for game development and publishing. The TikTok segment is responsible for the TikTok platform business, while supporting the development of extended businesses such as overseas e-commerce. It is worth noting that TikTok CEO Zhou Shoufu is no longer the CFO of ByteDance, and the company's finance department turned to Liang Rubo to report.
