Without Qian Xuantong, there would be no lu xun in the history of Chinese literature.

Why? And listen to the author slowly.

As we all know, Lu Xun's original name was Zhou Shuren, and the word "Lu Xun" was the pen name he used when he published "Diary of a Madman".

At the beginning, Mr. Zhou Shuren abandoned medicine and literature, with the intention of using pen and ink articles to wake up the sleeping Chinese, but after he returned to China, he was defeated by reality again and again, and gradually lost his fighting spirit, so he became a nine-to-five civil servant in the Ministry of Education, following the rules and being depressed.

At that time, Qian Xuantong was the editor of the "New Youth" magazine, and he and Zhou Shuren and Zhou Zuoren had studied under the master of traditional Chinese studies, Zhang Taiyan, and still had some friendship with the same door, so he often asked the Zhou brothers for manuscripts.

His younger brother Zhou Zuoren loved literature, and every time he was drafted by Qian Xuan, he gladly accepted it and quickly handed over a satisfactory answer sheet. His elder brother Zhou Shuren was not the same, he copied ancient monuments every day except for work, and he had no interest in literary creation, because he believed that writing could not save Chinese, and there was no meaning.

In August 1917, Qian Xuantong and Zhou Shuren began a history-changing conversation under the old locust tree of the Tree Repair Bookstore.

Qian Xuantong said, "I think you can write some articles." ”

Zhou Shuren replied: "Today's China is like an iron house, there is no window and it is difficult to destroy, and the people inside go from sleep to death, and do not feel the sadness of dying." If someone shouts and frightens a few of the more sober people, but makes them feel irreparable dying pain, do you think it is worthy of them? ”

Qian Xuantong retorted, "However, since several people have risen, you cannot say that there is absolutely no hope of destroying this iron house." ”

Qian Xuantong's words hit the nail on the head, touched Zhou Shuren's almost dead heart, aroused his long-sleeping desire to create, and made him write the immortal masterpiece "Diary of a Madman".

On May 15, 1918, Zhou Shuren published the first vernacular novel in the history of modern Chinese literature, "Diary of a Madman", under the pseudonym of Lu Xun, in the new youth, revealing the "cannibalistic" nature of feudal etiquette with sharp brushstrokes.

As soon as "Diary of a Madman" was published, the literary world was shaken and the response was strong, and Zhou Shuren was out of control from then on, embarking on the broad road of literature to save the country and becoming a leading figure in the cultural revolution. "Lu Xun" also replaced "Zhou Shuren" and became a household name.

From this point of view, Qian Xuantong can also be regarded as a Bole who has the grace of knowing Lu Xun, but their relationship is not good, and it can even be said that it is very bad.

In fact, from the very beginning, the two were not very compatible, Qian Xuantong admired Lu Xun's talent, but did not like Lu Xun as a person. In terms of temperament, Qian Xuantong had a better relationship with Zhou Zuoren, so later the Zhou brothers turned against each other, Qian Xuantong chose to take sides with Zhou Zuoren, and Lu Xun became farther and farther away, almost becoming enemies.

In May 1929, Qian Xuantong and Lu Xun met at Kongde Middle School, and Qian Xuantong took the initiative to ask: "Is your business card still three words?" Lu Xun smiled contemptuously and replied, "My business card never uses two or four words." ”

Qian Xuantong, the number of doubtful ancient, likes to imitate the ancient law to embellish the number before the name, calling himself "Doubtful Ancient Xuantong", and his business card uses the four words "Doubtful Ancient Xuantong". Lu Xun's remark was to satirize Qian Xuantong's pretense of being vain, and the four-character name was used on the business card.

Afterwards, Lu Xun mentioned this unpleasant meeting in the "Book of Two Places" and commented that Qian Xuantong was "fat and slippery, nagging as before". Qian Xuantong was relatively fat, and Lu Xun often seized this point to mock.

After Qian Xuantong learned about it, he was even more dissatisfied with Lu Xun, and only said: "If you want to hate, then hate it, and you won't see it in the future." ”

When Qian Xuantong was young, he once made an aggressive remark: "If a person is over forty, he should be shot." At the same time, he also opposed dialectics, saying publicly: "The head can be broken, and dialectics cannot be taught." These two things were later caught by Lu Xun with small braids, which caused a grudge between right and wrong.

In other words, Qian Xuantong reached the age of 40, mixed quite well, became a professor at Peking University, had money and status, and naturally did not want to die, so he selectively "forgot" what he had said.

However, Qian Xuantong "forgot", and Lu Xun could help him remember it, and specially wrote a poem to satirize it:

The practice is not self-destructive, leisurely forty years.

Why gamble on fat heads and resist dialectics.

Qian Xuantong was also speechless: I am just a little fat, do I need to make such repeated personal attacks?

Qian Xuantong's anger towards Lu Xun became heavier and heavier, but he did not like to publicly reply, but only vented in his diary: "Buying Lu Xun's "Three Idle Collections" and "Two Hearts Collection" and lying in bed to read it, I really feel that he is bored, rogue, and shameless. Always that set, cold and sour mixing, scolding the street, what does it mean? ”

In addition, Qian Xuantong also summed up Lu Xun's three fatal shortcomings: one is suspiciousness; the other is credulity; and the third is anger.

To be fair, Qian Xuantong's criticism of Lu Xun's works is unfair, but the three major shortcomings of Lu Xun that he summarized are not completely smeared out of thin air, such as the "transfer of anger", Qian Xuantong gave a specific example - whoever makes friends with Lu Xun's enemies will be disgusted at the same time, for example, Gu Jiegang and Lu Xun have no vendetta, just because they are close to Qian Xuantong, they are hated by Lu Xun.

If we talk about the popularity of later generations, Qian Xuantong can not be compared with Lu Xun, Chinese have not read Lu Xun's works, but few people know that without Qian Xuantong, today's Chinese "have no chance to enjoy the grace of Hanyu Pinyin and punctuation (Premier Zhou's comment)".

However, Qian Xuantong also had a place where he defeated Lu Xun, that is, his son was named Qian Sanqiang, the famous "father of The Chinese atomic bomb". At this point, all the other Masters of the Republic of China could only sigh to themselves, including Lu Xun.
